They ought to give you a little paper disc that you could stick to your windscreen with the renewal date on.

Or would that be too much?

But that never made any sense!. Why wasn't there a disc for MOT, and a disc for insurance?.

I was glad when they got rid of the pointless tax discs that we had to display for no real reason.

You cannot do that, several of my neighbours have found a loophole to the car tax system.
ie why bother because there is rarely a police car around and even fewer with ANPR so why pay for tax?

You must live in a pretty dodgy area if several of your neighbors are driving round with their cars having a SORN!

Quite the opposite, these are people and cars you would not expect to be untaxed. But they drive fairly low mileages and rarely any police around here. Especially if they use the lanes rather than the main roads.

Although one did have his Mercedes towed away a little while back. Swoop and scoop. It was gone in seconds.

Maybe someone took a dislike to his parking on double yellows all the time.

How do you know they are untaxed? Have you been snooping on DVLA website? :A

  • I've forgotten to renew by due date. Nobody is perfect, but the DVLA do send out a reminder. Once recieved I've paid up and no further action. I thought the fine was £80 and back tax. Am I wrong?

That's an odd use of "loophole". To me, a loophole is taking advantage of an unintended way to stay within the letter of the law, if outside the spirit of it.

This appears to be simply ignoring the law...

A 14 year old schoolboy spotted this gap in the market and in a round about way it has helped him to make £2million pounds!

Because, clearly, writing "Tax expires 31/3/17" on a piece of paper and shoving it in the windscreen yourself is FAR too hard for Daily Mail readers.
