Bet that is quite a decision.....I would find that well nigh impossible being a hoarder of the first order!...

We're the opposite, but it's still fun sorting out what we take back to the UK, what we bin, what we give to charity and what we try to sell.

I'm currently burning all my old CDs as MP3 so they can come over on a single hard drive.

I really need to learn how to do that, it'll be a project in itself when I finally finish.

    It's very easy, if time consuming. I'm using this software;
    http://www.freerip.com/download.php

Once it's all st up, which is quite easy in itself, it's just a case of; pop a CD in my computer, one mouse click, wait five minutes, take out CD, put another CD in my computer, repeat ad infinitum.

And that sounds like the perfect bungalow - as long as there’s somewhere for dog walking close by. Sadly seems it’s occupied for the foreseeable ...

That's one of the reasons for staying put and not moving into the country as we sail towards retirement, 10 minutes walk and we're onto the hills.... and I love it when we get deep snow so do the dogs!

I'm going to seriously start de-cluttering in 2018, think that may need to be my (almost realistic) New Years Resolution, the loft is heaving as is the garage, summerhouse and shed. I think I'll try selling some stuff .... who needs 8 spare fish tanks? But most will go to local Red Cross Shop simply for ease of disposal and help a good cause.

We'll have to make a list of repairs and improvements to age proof the place, does anyone know how often to re-wire a house? Must be 30 years or more since our house was totally re-wired and if we succeed in living 30+ years it'll be decrepit by the time we're old(er)!

Thanks for that fat beetle, I shall have a look at that.

crv, 8 fish tanks......set up your own pets shop at that rate!

I think it's around 25 years - no idea when mine was last done - lot longer than 25 years though!

We're ever so lucky, we will live in semi-rural Cornwall, so walking is close and plentiful. In fact a footpath runs at the end of our garden, and then goes across three fields, and we end up here...

Tell us about it. We're currently stripping down our Aussie house in order to move back. It's amazing how many things which seemed "handy", "useful" or even "essential" at the time, are going in the bin or to charity. I'm ditching several hundred CDs to the Salvos.

    That looks great Fatbeetle!

My mother has spent the last 30 years de-cluttering! Unfortunately a lot of it into my loft and garage. I'm sure that I really don't need my Junior School Books, Nurse Training Notes and my boys Thunderbirds VHS Videos!

I have some leave to take so after Christmas I'll book some and hire a skip, I've managed to clear the shed and organise it so it only has garden tools in it, so am quite chuffed. Given away to colleagues some unneeded tools, I'm shocked at what we have collected over the years, so if I haven't used it in a year or so I'm giving it to someone who will.

I have decided that given we have 6 artificial xmas trees of various sizes this weekend I'm going to go through the decorations and de-clutter them, oh and not buy a real tree now but use what we've got. Then hopefully I'll be able to donate some, take some to work and bin some. I have found 10 packs of wrapping paper 10 sheets per pack at 50p per pack from Woolworths, guess they've been lurking since the 80s! Looks like my presents are going to be wrapped in retro-style this year...and next....and the year after!

I think once we've de-cluttered I'll get some quotes for re-wiring, some of the windows and re-pointing the roof. I'll take a critical view of the place looking at it as if I was buying it for the first time and list what I think needs essential repair/ replacement, what I'd like repaired/ replaced and get some prices before I finally do retire.

That way I hopefully won't get any surprise bills when we're into our next phase of life.

    .

That looks stunning- bet the dogs have a whale of a time too!

I like the town where I live- Georgian market town on edge of Wolds - 12 miles to a very flat sandy goes-for-miles beach! so a bit on the flat side except I live up a hill!
But I have wonderful scenery at my holiday home in Eire- look at the highest mountains from my garden- shame it is such a loooong drive!
Don't plan to move. I have very steep stairs so got a second handrail fitted ready for the second replacement knee a year ago.
Need to declutter.. but life's too short and if any one wants anything I bet I can help them out!!

Made 12 doggy duvets last weekend. You'd think that would have cleared a space! think on....
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
