Last internal flight I took in the US was Orlando to NYC. Took 7 hours because of bad weather in the NYC area - all three airports closed.
A day trip in January by plane? Personally I wouldn't risk it.0 -
While it may save money travel time by bus or train could be a drawback
By Train: Amtrak service to Niagara Falls from New York City takes about 9.5 hours.
By Bus: It takes 9-11 hours to take the bus from New York City to Niagara Falls.
Yeah but flying - you have to be at the airport 2 hours before. Airports around half hour away. Say an hour for the flight and then you need to transfer at the other end. There might be a few hours in it but a huge huge saving money wise and get to see niagra falls at different times of day:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Or get the early bus on the 2nd and late bus on the third as you said you've got either day. I wouldn't risk flights plus it's winter at that time of year - I'm sure ive seen friends with pictures on an ice rink in central square it's that cold:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

The journey would take a full day each way: not how most people would choose to spend their holidays.0 -
This is an internal flight, just a hop really and the packages include transport from our hotel to the airport (and back) and we won't have luggage.0

We did Niagara Falls by train from NYC. It's a full day's journey but a beautiful one at any time of year up the Hudson Valley. We took a taxi across the border, and after a couple of nights we took a bus onto Toronto and flew home from there.
I find train travel can be an enjoyable part of a holiday.
We also did Montreal to Quebec by train this summer. A lovely stress free way to get between the two cities, and we avoided renting a car for a further 4 days.0 -
We flew Jet Blue from JFK to Buffalo. Early morning flight for c$100 each. Cheap Avis hire car including Canada access. One hour drive to the Falls. Saw them. Did the Maid of the Mist.
Drove into Canada for a couple of hours to Niagara On The Lake. Then back to Buffalo airport and a late afternoon flight to JFK.
It was a decent day. In October.0 -

I agree, I would do it that way in later spring/summer or early fall but in January I am not sure I would even want to try it in any way. As great as the falls are weatherwise at that time of year COULD have more problems than would be worth the trip:snow_grin0 -
Are you planning to head over to the Canadian side? It's not worth the trip if you're not as the view is poor from the US.0
