Vodafone Bill :(

Hey!
I'm really hoping someone here can help me!!
So, last year I received a bill from Vodafone for £456.12. After many phone conversations with them, they insisted the bill was correct. However, I am positive that I did not go over on my bill, especially by that much. I did not pay this and sought help from my University finance team for advice.
Also, I'm almost positive that I received a message the following month stating that I now owed approx. £790 on my account now. Of course, I called again and they insisted that it was correct. However, This large bill seemed to disappear and I no longer had access to this message.
Being a stupid, immature first year student, I made a massive mistake and hoped this would just go away on its own and focused on exams for med school.
Of course, things don't really work that way, and 'debts' don't just disappear. I received a letter from vodafone and a third party debt collection agency in May. However, I had already moved home at this point for the summer and did not truly receive the letter until it had been redirected to my home address in September.
The letter now states that I owe - Call charges/line rental:- £358.39 (approx. £100 less that originally stated).
Early Termination Fee:- £216.62
I just don't know what to do, I genuinely feel like I've been over charged, I can no longer access my bills on the Vodafone website to even check, and I didn't want the contract to be terminated, yet they did so whilst I was disputing the costs because I couldn't afford to pay the ridiculously over priced bills.
Where do I stand now and is there anything I can do?
Surely, there are some kind of regulations in place whereby a phone is blocked to prevent the user from going over their standard bill cost by so much?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Jacob :j

No, mobile contracts are not capped-unless you choose a capped tariff. Which Vodafone do not offer. Try Tesco Mobile instead.
No provider will cut you off when you go over your allowance, for the obvious reason that sometimes people run up huge bills due to genuine emergencies-such as medical ones. Cutting people off in such circumstances would lead to potentially huge compensation claims.
Every phone has a call log which allows you to monitor your exact usage.
Your first priority is to check your credit report, because with a default recorded then you will not be getting a contract phone for the next six years. or indeed any other form of credit. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
