I personally think it is unfair to tax cars costing £40,000 but not tax cars <£40,000 even though both emit zero co2 emissions!
Just another government ploy to tax the rich...

It's just a ploy to encourage "premium" car manufacturer's to speed up the process of bringing in electric and zero C02 rated vehicles and at an affordable price. I'll not lose any sleep over it.

Is this something you want to have a sensible debate about or are we going to see more of your usual behaviour?
He has no idea how to have a sensible debate.

I know, it's a half baked attempt to look like a genuine poster. Soon he'll try and introduce the torque curve of this weeks imaginary car.

Tax should be done on miles driven not emissions or value of the car.

As it stands, It's just another pointless tax only used to generate more revenue like stamp duty.

Yes, add it on to the cost of fuel, that then supports the principle that the polluter pays.

It will be interesting to see how the manufacturers respond. I think we'll see "special editions" priced at just below the threshold

    Taxes are rarely fair.

And its hardly taxing the rich. You could pay £40K for a Passat diesel these days....

Will be interested to see how they deal with optional extras on the £35-39,000 range. Possibly, if PXing, drop the price of the car and offer less PX so it sits under £40k? Would that even work?

I would imagine it'll apply to the basic RRP of the vehicle before options etc.
