My hair is falling out!!!

I'm just hoping for some reassurance really.
I had a baby just over 4 months ago, and my hair is falling out really badly. It started about 3 months ago. I had expected SOME hair loss, because I know you don't tend to lose much while you are pregnant, but I am just losing bucket-loads. The plugholes, hoover, outside grate, washing machine...everything....keeps getting clogged up. My hairbrushes are full of it, even though I clear them every other day. I've just sat here now and pulled more than 20 hairs off my t-shirt.
I feel quite embarrassed about it, and it's really starting to get me down. I don't look as though I'm going bald, although I'm sure it's getting thinner around my hairline.
Has anyone else had this after giving birth? Is it normal? How long will it go on for?

i had major surgery last june and lost lots of hair - well it felt like it to me
it would be all over my pillow in the morning
then i started low carbing in august and the hair loss started again !!! my hairdresser said it was fine tho - it just worried me and i hated seeing it EVERYWHERE - it slowed down once my body had re adjusted itself to everything and is just normal loss now
i really thought id end up bald at one point - try not to worry im sure it will slow up soon:j MFi3 wannabee :j

Same here :-) My baby is almost 5 mths and I *think* mine is just starting to slow down now (falling out).. however, i do have an inherited hair loss problem and have been to a specialist before so what im losing im not sure i will grow back.
If this is the first time it has happened to you i would try not to worry as it is probably just from having your baby and it should slow down soon.
Luckily at the moment my hair is VERY thick so what im losing is not really noticeable (other than to me) but i will go back to the dr if it doesnt stop soon and try to get something for it..
Like i said, my case is slightly different but im sure yours will be fine and stop falling soon as well as starting to gro back0 -
I lost lots when I'd had my baby boy (now 21months) and it's slowed down but I think it's natural to lose hair generally, I notice it more as I have dark and longer hair but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about0

Although it hasn't happened to me, it is normal for it to happen like this. Try taking Kelp, that's great at promoting hair growth. You can get it from any health shop, but I believe Holland and Barrett are the cheapest!0

Thanks everyone - I lost hair after my first too, but I just don't remember it being so bad! I also lost some mid-pregnancy, when my morning sickness was at its worst and I couldn't eat. Maybe Im just destined not to have hair!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I would advise you to have the blood test for the thyroid function done . Even if you would have your hormone level too high or too low it is nothing to worry about and would not mean that you have a thyroid disoder, it is normal 3-4 months after the childbirth and can fix itself. But at least you will know the reason.0

Don't worry it is common. Go and see your GP if it continues either for reassurance or in case it needs investgating.0

I thought it was totally normal, as you don't lose the normal hairs you would in pregnancy, so after the birth all the hairs you would have lost over the last 9 months start to fall out.
It does slow down, eventually. Keep emptying the plugholes or you'll have to call a plumber!0 -
I think it probably is normal, it's just driving me crazy!
I can tell when a fresh lot has come out because my head feels itchy. My 4 month old has suddenly 'discovered' hair pulling too, so she's pulling clumps of it out!
Can anyone who has had something similar remember how long it went on for at all? I would love to think the end was in sight!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
