I have a garage bill of £180 odd to pay this week.
When they present the bill is there a way to pay in £30 segments using my two TSB Classic Plus cards contactless for the whole amount, i.e. 6 x £30?
Thanks.

You could ask them. Doubt they would be too impressed though.0

As long as they accept contactless transactions then I don't see why not. Just split them across 2 cards (assuming you have more than 1 account).:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

They'd have to key in six lots of transactions AFTER you've had to explain why it is that you want to split them in the first place.
You'll feel like a right idiot if they do it and even more so if they refuse.
Let this one go and if you're short of your contactless spend could you buy gift cards for somewhere you're going to shop at regularly (a supermarket perhaps) in the near future?
Does your contactless promotion end in December or next September?0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if this generates a red flag with the TSB fraud squad!0

Do you have an Android Phone?. If so you can just use Android Pay and pay £100 in one go on one account and the rest on the other.0

That's just your feeling though. Lots on here wouldn't feel like an idiot.
Bottom line is the garage want to get paid for their services and you're offering to pay them via 6 separate card transactions - I don't see the problem in all honesty. No need to feel like an idiot or be embarrassed.
A couple of examples of people doing it on grocery shops (from one thread only):

What?! And miss out on £9? Nah.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

So then OP is going to have to ask to pay a pound on each card via PIN to reset contactless. So that's 8 transactions for a pair of tyres (assumption).
At some point the garage owner is going to say enough is enough...quite possibly at the outset if their accounts system demands one payment per invoice.0 -

I've used Android pay in Tesco for transactions under £30 but it wouldn't work in their petrol garage for a £45ish spend. Who decides the limit for android contactless payments, is it the retailer?0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
The garage has now phoned to say the car is ready for collection tomorrow. I did ask about paying contactless and he said they had the facility. He didnt like the idea of breaking payment into £30 segments. But...so what!
I haven't been asked to pay using an £180 note so why not in segments, they still get their money. I might be prepared to try it tomorrow and I will let y'all know. Humiliating yeah! £9 worth.0 -

£5:If you have a Classic Plus account with a contactless debit card and are registered for Internet Banking, you'll earn 5% cashback on your first £100 of contactless payments every month, until 31 December 2016. If you opened your account on, or after, 1 June 2016, you'll benefit from this offer until 30 September 2017.
Six contactless transactions in a row at the same place probably wouldn't go through anyway.0
