Simple matter is if your child had vomited in the toilets nobody would have been any the wiser. The circumstances were unfortunate, but a judgement call has to be made on the information they have - staff saw your child being ill and helped clear it up, checked up on your daughter but would have had an obligation to inform the captain.

As for the insurance, I think it's hindsight where you're saying you would have chosen a different policy 'had you read the T&Cs'. Actually, I know I do read my policy documents - not necessarily all in one sitting, but I do make sure I haven't got any glaring policy omissions. It's very common that people don't take much notice of excess levels. If you've never made an insurance claim it's just something that keeps the cost of the policy down.

You're out of pocket by the cost of the replacement flights but if you had have had to forego the entire holiday then you would have got a good proportion of the overall holiday costs back - had your daughter been too ill to continue the journey onwards. You were not sold inadequate insurance. If you want a tailor made policy for all eventualities it'll cost you and it's not a policy you would just take from the travel agent or airline on booking a holiday.

I would just put this behind you, read insurance policy docs in full in future and consider it being just bad luck that you were at the gate when the child became ill.
  • I feel for the OP - I really do. But... Jet2 were correct in their procedure and the insurance done exactly as it stated. There are no issues.

For people who don't realise how bad Norovirus is for airlines. If there is an outbreak onboard the entire crew needs to be isolated for 48hours and the aircraft deep cleaned. This is in addition to componsating the numerous people who would end up being infected onboard.

Can imagine someone typing here . My daughter/son was extremely unwell and ruined our holiday due to sitting by someone who was sick in the depature lounge and obviously unwell before departure . Jet2 did the right thing .I hope you enjoyed your holiday once set off but I cannot see a win here if compo was sought
