Further to what Deal Drivers is saying, I just noticed that Drive The Deal give 12 months tax with new cars and Deal Drivers only 6. So even though Deal Drivers is cheaper, take the tax issue into account. On the example I looked at, it still made them cheaper though.

I have never heard of Deal Drivers before, but have just ordered a Zetec Climate 1.4 Fiesta through DTD who I have only heard good things about. I ordered through DTD on Wednesday night and it says they should ring to confirm the order in 2 - 3 days but still not heard from them

Now I notice that the price has gone up on their site so I hope they stick to the lower price with me since thats what it was when I ordered. Will report back on my experience as it goes on... if anyone buys from Deal Drivers can they report back too, i'd be interested to hear how it goes in case my Drive The Deal order falls through.

When I was looking for a car for my other half, we left our details as we were interested in a few and noone got back to me.

So at the moment, its not looking good although all I keep hearing are good things.

    Who was that with Lucy?

With Drive the deal, we weren't enquiring, we actually clicked the "purchase" button and entered our CC details to pay a £500 deposit. Then the next screen said somthing like "Thank you, we will be in touch in 2 - 3 days to confirm your order" but have heard nothing since, and like I said, their prices have gone up since so will be really angry if we now have to pay the higher price (will take our business elsewhere in fact).

We did notice though a distinct lack of interest by most people (in showrooms and online). I dislike pushy sales people, but some garages we were walking round for half an hour (with money virtually burning a hole in our pocket) and no one approached us so we buggared off. Same when ringing people up. The amount of places that said "can I get him / her to ring you back" and then we never heard from them again....

It was with DTD and I was just enquiring about nearly new cars

Are you purchasing a new car? I am split as to whether I should get a new or nearly new.:confused::confused:

    Update:

Just as we were looking up the number to ring Drive The Deal, they rang us.

They told me that they couldn't deliver the car until end of October and because Ford bump their prices up at the start of October it was going to cost me an extra £250...:mad::mad: not impressed.

Rang back later and said that I wanted to cancel the order as I have found it cheaper at Deal Driver "ok then, bye" and slams phone down.

Every time I have rang Drive The Deal their people have spoken to use like we are something they stepped in.

£8k might not be a big purchase to them, but it is to me and they have just lost my custom now and for future.

Deal Drivers, I have just got to check you out but if I like what I hear, I will be in touch soon to buy from you.

@ Lucy - we are looking to purchase new. I always said I never would because of depreciation, but buying online with big discounts, depreciation isn't so bad. I think the £8000 fiesta we are looking at would be worth about £4000 after 3 years, but if you pay the rrp of £12,500, its a damn site worse....

Add to that we won't need any repairs / mots for 3 years and I think its not a bad deal. Especially when the only mechanic I trust not to overcharge me is my uncle who is an hour and a half away and I can't really afford anything that is older.

Have you compared new against nearly new?

    E.g.

    Drive the Deal
    Brand new (57) = £6881
    One year old (56) = £7993
    (nearly) Two years old (55) = £5998

Ok, the two "nearly new" ones might have metalic paint makes the new one £7196 but its still cheaper than the 1 year old one and only £1k more than the nearly 2 year old one, but the new one has 3 years waranty compared to the 2 year old one that only has one year warranty.

(The prices above are just used for simplicity, I think Deal Drivers is cheaper than Drive the Deal and more friendly from what I can see).

Its not easy spending £8k though is it?!?!

Hows your purchase going? Would be nice to get an insight into deal drivers
  • I have been considering buying using Drivethedeal or similar but would be put off by the fact that when the car is delivered (is it driven or transported?)there might not be time to fully inspect before accepting. If any damage were found at a later date, say the following day, then the supplying dealer, as they do!, could say that the car was perfect when delivered. If purchasing directly from a dealer said vehicle can be fully inspected at leisure before parting with full payment. Also what further negotiating can be done after order i.e. "free" mats, mudflaps, extras etc.?
    I need convincing.

    Hi Lucy,

I purchased with Deal Drivers yesterday after a few phone calls to them to check a few things previously. They have been nothing but helpful with me on the telephone and I am very impressed - much better than Drive The Deal.

Unfortunately I can't take delivery until December due to parts shortages at Ford but thats not Deal Drivers fault.

@ oldagetraveller - The dealer that I am dealing with is in Birmingham (I am in Stafford) so I can have it delivered free to my door (or I think I will be able to collect from Brum if I ask them - which I might do so I can check the car off fully before parting with the cash).

Why would you want further negotiation to get a set of overprices mats thrown in for free when you are getting such a good price? Ford near me were quite willing to throw in free mats (worth £25) for me, but were £100 more expensive than Deal Drivers and would not budge an inch from there!

I would rather buy £100 cheaper and then buy a set of mats myself.

What would you recommend asking when you call them as this is my first pruchase?

Is the car fully yours - your the first owner? How does the paperwork work?

Have a look at the Deal Drivers website, I think it is very comprehensive in explaining the whole process (although it does look a bit mad when you first get on there) unline DTD who I don't think explain things well.

As I understand it (and as they tell you) the car is fully yours and you are the first owner. Its just like buying a brand new car from your local Ford garage... I won't keep talking cos i'll sound like I am working for them which I most certainly don't. Check their website, its all on there.

As for what questions I asked, I was just asking about options and pricing specific to the car I was buying (Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.4 with Sports and Tech pack). We also asked about the tax on the car (we upgraded to 12 months), delivery timescales... think thats about it. They were really helpful.

As I said, if you do decided to buy and want to get yourself £25 high street vouchers, I can recommend you. Entirely up to you of course.

EDIT to add... this is my first (new) car purchase too so i'm kind of stumbling through...
