Losing Weight OS?

Well, thank you, i am very keen to lose weight but am broke too so mse way is the way for me. I am getting married in April so would love to look a little thinner for the big day!
I have been officially obese for a while now but the docs are not concerned. I am asthmatic and unfit, but find it really tough to get fit as i have such difficulty breathing i give in.
I love cooking and neither me or DF like processed food so that has not been too much of a problem for us, but i need to do something, so will be on here looking for inspiration and hoping to add anything that i find along the way.
Lets go for it!
Good luck to you all!Leopardlady

Although I'm not trying to lose weight at the moment (although perhaps I should) can I echo the advice to just go for healthy eating? I tried WW online a few months ago and was seriously disappointed. Their system actively discouraged cooking from scratch, so far as I could see, as it was so difficult to work out points values. ALso, because they produced their own 'treats' with low points (because of sweetener), there wasn't that much education towards healthy eating. The Core diet was much better but it went too far in the other direction: an item with just ONE non-core ingredient supposedly had to be pointed, even if you had a pretty good idea what else was in it. The systems for pointing definitely favoured processed food because of the information on the packet.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I am doing slimming world and yes it is expensive just to get weighed but frankly I just cannot do it alone.
My number one tip would be to eliminate bread except for special occasions as it automatically cuts out the need to put anything on it. Sadly for me OS style eating = flab. Much as I love to read about homemade flapjackes, scones, crumbles etc, there is no way I can eat that kind of stuff without putting on gazillions of weight.
Good luck. I have tried to go it alone many times, but always put the weight back on. It gets so much harder the older you get, so if you are under 30 DO IT NOW!!!!:D
Thought I had better add that OS is really great when it comes to eating beans, lentils etc and lean meats as they are all included in slimming world. The sooner someone invents a fat burning pill that is healthy and works the better!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi there
I have to agree with the comments on eating homemade food in smaller portions..that is what i decided to do... after years of WW SW lipotrim, slimfast and the rest...
I weigh in every friday and have lost 1st2lb in 5 weeks... no manic exercise- unless you count cleaning OS, and no "diet" foods.. im eating roast dinners with all the trimings, HM sausages as toad in the hole, meat pie, pasties, casseroles, HM bread -all the good old foods, just in sensible amounts and with plenty of veg ... and i have no cravings -at all... don't fancy choc, crisps, cakes etc ..and im not paying extra for someone to weigh me :T
So come on...you can do it....just wanted to wish you all "good luck"-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Well I joined the Tesco e-Diets and it seems to be pretty good
I want to loose inches instead of kgs or lbsas have a wedding coming up in May so I've opted for entering my measurements each week.
Lots of healthy food on my menu though and OH will be fed what I eat,but bigger portions with more treats lolDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

The Core system seems inconsistent to me -why no wholemeal bread ? Why only brown rice but white pasta ? And why is baking powder listed as allowable when you can't use it any recipe that doesn't also contain flour0 -
And agree on the WW diets - I've done both WW and Slimming world and at least on Slimming world you got a lot more recipies...
Still really couldn't get into the whole thing with getting worked up about someone loosing 1/2lb more than me and their constant harping about body image - WW wasn't much better with their "WW ice cream, soup, 50,000 other tasteless meals"... I'll rather have home made and eat a little less (although not much! Main difference is they put a point amount on each box, not that it is healthier!)DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I am a fan of SW, I have lost almost a stone and a half :j and without going I just dont think I could do it, Its £4.50 a week but i go with my sister and we treat it as a night out together and enjoy it!It is also a healthy plan with lots of fruit and veg and cooking form scratch unlike WW. I am nearly at my target now so then I dont have to pay but will continue to go as I enjoy it and also my sister stil has some way to go.
I lost mine in small amounts of a pound or a pound and a half which I think is a healthy way to do it and its more likely to stay off(I hope) I have also given all my clothes away as they are too big for me so there is no chance I will grow back into them!;)Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Hi Miniloopie
My advice would be start by cutting out the "bad" foods, e.g. snacks, crisps, biscuits, cakes, pastry, butter, etc Do a menu plan and try to stick to it. Up your fruit and veg intake.
There are a few good threads on here which are worth a look:
Murphy's No more Pies & Lose Weight 14 both are threads of people with one goal, losing weight, and they support & encourage eachother. Also check out Losing weight Recipes for some good ideas. Victory has been posting some interesting recipes recently at Murphy's.
cindiedunkley, taplady, MRSMCAWBER, & nickcardwell's wife, well done on your weight loses! Cindiedunkley, you've done it before, so will do it again, good luck.
Good Luck also to everyone who is losing just now, and those about to start!0 -
One cheap way to record your weight loss is to keep adding paper clips to a chain - one for every pound lost - and then pin it up by your PC or somewhere you see it often. Useful if you're not keen on broadcasting your weight to the world, or even the fact that you're on a diet. Everyone else sees a few handy paperclips, while you see a growing source of pride and motivationEek! Someone's stolen my signature! :eek:0
