Losing Weight OS?

I've gone back to WW and am doing points as core plan didn't suit a dairy free diet. I can't eat most of their processed stuff so I'm still cooking from scratch - just using some of the WW cook books and pointing up my own recipes. Made a quiche this week that worked out at 4 pts per reasonable sized portion.
I keep thinking there should be a More with Less diet......... following the guidelines. Thriftlady - did you lose weight when you did the rations this summer?“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Useful if you're not keen on broadcasting your weight to the world, or even the fact that you're on a diet. Everyone else sees a few handy paperclips, while you see a growing source of pride and motivation
Thats a great idea - unfortunately wouldn't work in our office... paperclips always seem to be in short supply and get nicked!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
The best tip i can offer is PORTION CONTROL - it really works. Try to split your plate at meal times into a quarter protein, a quarter carbohydate and half veg - that way you still have a full plate. You will be surprised at how little rice/pasta/bread you actually need to eat without feeling hungry. Another good tip is to snack only on fruit between meals. Exercise is also really important, even if you can only manage a half hour walk in your lunch hour at work, it will make all of the difference. Hope this helps.

I agree - exercise IS important. Don't forget to make the most of that stretch when reaching for that out-of-the-way saucepan, remember your squats when getting out items in low cupboards, side bends when fetching the cutlery from the drawer, and lunges when aiming for the first person to complain about the cooking

I've been being REALLY healthy for the past 2 weeks, and have lost 4lbs - which isn't that much, BUT i've upped my fibre (and have been taking aloe vera colon cleanse tablets! I swear, they so work!!!), swopped squash for green tea and have eaten breakfast every day and my fave jeans are no longer as tight. I definitely look less bloated!
Am off to check out the Lose Weight thread for some fun ideas! xx0 -
To work out what is under 5% fat, look on whatever you buy, bread, flour etc and it will have a coloum that says fat content per 100grams, if it is under 5 grams of fat, then it is under 5% fat.
Rosemary Connelly works this way, though she does calorie counts also. I lost quite abit of weight this way a few years ago without counting calories. I am starting again from today. I will have red meat once a week but the rest of the time i will have chicken or fish. We will be eating loads of fruit and veg.
I posted a thread yesterday saying i was starting to healthy eat from today. Have alook and you'll see my o/s meal plan for two weeks. I prefer to cook from scratch too. I'm trying to make my meals so my girls don't notice the difference. I will fry with a drop of water instead of oil (it really does work) and make my meals as healthy as possible.
As others have said, you need to watch your portion size and exercise more. But i will be bulking out my dinners with loads of veg as i love my food (and it worked when i did this before.
Hope you get on well.0 -
I have just started my own version of the GI diet.
I seem to be constantly stuffed with and I stared Monday. Apart from Bananas and potatoes (must be new potatoes)you can eat most fruit and veggies as free foods.
Bread must be hight about 2.5gram + of fibre per slice. Pasta must be wholemeal. You can have back bacon but not any other type.
Got a book from the pound shop about it. It is suppose to be very good for people who are diabetic and of course it is something that you can carry on long term. No real special food as it is all normal food.

Not sure on the actual weight loss as have only been doing it for few days.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your comments and supportive messages!
I agree with a majority of the comments on WW and Slimming World - if it works for you then fantastic but for me I found the 'pointing' and 'sins' etc a bit intimidating - I think the way to go for me, in a long term perspective, is to make sure I have a healthy, balanced diet with sensible portion sizes and to stop eating when Im full!
I dont want to put loads of pressure on to do things like absolutely never eat chocolate again - or to have an unrealistic exercise regime - I want to eat sensibly and make sure Im active every day - shouldnt be hard with two toddlers about and plenty of vigorous housework to do!
I've already followed advice about taking a 'before' shot of myself and storing that somewhere safe for motivation!
Wanted to add my support to everyone who's starting out or starting again!0 -
Check out the recipes on channel4.com/cookyourselfthin
They give ideas on how to reduce the fat and calories without actually following a specific diet and without depriving yourself - includes chocolate truffle recipe.
Haven't tried the recipes yet but plan to
I don't follow WW as I get obsessive counting calories or points, or daily fat gram allowances. So I just cut out most cakes and biscuits. Cut down on portion size and reduced the fat I use in recipes (cook from scratch). I also cook more veg and less pasta/meat. Snacks tend to be fruit or jam and toast.
You can fry in water or stock quite easily, swap to skim milk etc without noticing too much missingworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
And agree on the WW diets - I've done both WW and Slimming world and at least on Slimming world you got a lot more recipies...
Still really couldn't get into the whole thing with getting worked up about someone loosing 1/2lb more than me and their constant harping about body image - WW wasn't much better with their "WW ice cream, soup, 50,000 other tasteless meals"... I'll rather have home made and eat a little less (although not much! Main difference is they put a point amount on each box, not that it is healthier!)
It does feel a bit like being on Fat Fighters on Little Britain.:DAll that clapping etc. It really is not my scene but I have made a committment to myself to get to a weight I am happy at. Incidentally I have just a stone to lose now and wonder what is a realistic weight per week? My fella bet I would lose 3 lbs this week and I could have hit him. I did in fact lose half a pound!!!
Am I right in thinking that the less you have to lose, the harder it is to get it off? Add into the mix the menopause and you can see I have a battle on my hands.:rolleyes:Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
