Well I used my very heavy antique cast iron griddle on a ceramic hob for years with no ill effects. I suppose that there is a risk you could crack the ceramic if you banged it down too hard?

I've finally bought a griddle pan, and now I don't know what to do with it! I was thinking chicken beasts, but does anyone have any suggestions for flavouring, or for anything else?

    Thanks for your help!

  • You could try chicken portions, steak, lamb cutlets, pork chops etc. We tend to have a lot of salmon, prawns and other seafood on it. The important points are to get it really hot if you want the "chargrill" marks, and to oil the steaks or whatever rather than putting oil in the pan (as it will fill the kitchem with smoke!)

Can I have some ideas for uses for a cast iron skillet/griddle type thing... I'm sorting out some more of the contents of my granparents house trying to work out what has a use and what doesn't.. I an remember my gran used to cook potato scones and drop scones on it when I was little but what else could you use it for???

I am attempting to go old old style this year as much as possible so if its useful i'm snaffling it or my house (grandparents died 10+ years ago and literally the contents of the house was packed and put in my parents attic until anyone cold bare sorting it all out) It seems a good time for things to move to the next generation and beyond.... already snaffled the jam pot and 30+ kilner jars plus other bits like a cheese plane.. Really kithen tools of the 60's/70's were so mh better quality. :rotfl:

  • DD make crumpets on mine yesterday :)

If you're careful, most things that you cook in a frying pan can be done on a griddle.
