Cast Iron Griddle Pan

I know you're not supposed to wash cast iron things, especially a griddle pan which needs the seasoning so stuff doesn't stick, but what do I do about mine after cooking salmon steaks on it??
I wiped it with kitchen roll but it still pongs a bit and there are bits of fish/skin in the corners where I can't quite get them
The temptation to just put the damn thing in the dishwasher is growing strong!

Wash then gently re-heat with a wipe of oil all over interior & allow to cool I think.

Thanks both of you!
The pan is frankly starting to gross me out now0 -
I also have to admit washing mine then rubbing with oil.
A tip for when cooking on a griddle it to oil the food and not the pan. I find this works well, and uses less oil.
HTHr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I wash mine up (but not in the dishwasher) then dry it over a low heat and spray with a bit of oil.0

I do the same as everybody else and wash mine. Didn't realise I shouldn't :eek:Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

To get rid of all the manky burnt on yuck (technical term) in your griddle pan, fill it with salt so it covers the ridges & put it on the highest heat on the hob. Leave to "cook" until the salt turns a nasty brownish grey colour. Leave to cool FOR A VERY LONG TIME and tip out the salt & give it a quick wash. Wipe with a bit of oil & it should be as good as new (ish).0

Mum cleans her griddle (or gets me to do it...) by rubbing salt on it with kitchen paper, works to absorb and abrade all the grease and muck - then just brush the salt off and apply some cooking oil...student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0
