  • Am I right in thinking that MLP is mainly handled by a computer algorithm? And the algorithm was "designed" by a spotty-faced youth not long out of nappies? 100-1 on?

So that's why some people have problems with Lloyds Bank. I thought they were elderly gentlemen dozing in their leather chairs, dropping cigar ash on the carpet and drinking too much brandy. But they are all spotty-faced youths!! Goes to show eh?

Yes, things seem to have changed in the banking sector. Bring back to elderly gentlemen; we'd all be better off.
  • An elderly, cigar-smoking, slightly tipsy gentleman would be infinitely preferable to 'computer says no'.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

OP, if you need access to your funds for your property purchase, you should be formally complaining straight away. I would give the normal complaints team 24 hours to sort it, and if they fail to do so, go straight to the Chief Executive, Mr Antonio Horta-Osorio. antonio.osorio at lloydsbanking.com

I emailed the CEO last Friday then I got from someone from his complaints team and he was a joke. He basically said he couldn't tell me anything other than there is a technical issue with my account. I then said was is the point of your call and he said he can't do anything and that I should complain to the FCA if I wanted to

That sounds nasty. Have you tried going back to the CEO telling him that you will hold Lloyds liable for any problem with your property purchase if you are unable to access your funds?

I don't understand the reference to the FCA. Consumers can't complain to the FCA, You need to go to the Financial Ombudsman. You normally need to give the bank 8 weeks to sort themselves before you can do that but in your situation, you should probably contact them right away.

Also ask your MP for help tomorrow. http://www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/

The FSA doesn't exist any more. It was split into the FCA and PRA. Fancy another try? ;)

If your partner suddenly stops returning your calls and acts suspiciously around you, then you know something is up.

Its the same with banks. If they suddenly freeze all your accounts, you obviously know something is up. So what difference does it make if a customer is told if they are suspected of money laundering or not? Surely the law should change on this?
