Out of contract with Sky BB... what to do?

I've been out of contract for a while & have just spoken to a guy at sky, I'm currently paying £37.40 for BB & line & the best he could come up with was £28.60.... doesn't seem much of a saving.
This is for up to 38Mb & a new 12 month contract.
He was quite adamant that this was his best offer so... is it worth trying to beat them down a bit more or just go with someone like BT who are offering up to 52Mb for £29.99 with a supposedly better hub?

I'm on ADSL (no fibre available, yet)and all Sky would offer me was free broadband, after having free broadband with half price or reduced line rental before (several tries), so I moved to PlusNet, to save.....and very much regret it, having slow speeds and constant drop outs (The latter improved by a replacement modem).I've been out of contract for a while & have just spoken to a guy at sky, I'm currently paying £37.40 for BB & line & the best he could come up with was £28.60.... doesn't seem much of a saving.

Nothing in the house has changed so a drop of a regular 6 to 6.4 over wifi, to 4.5 at a very rare best (mostly below 3.5 and as bad as below 1.0), must be down to bad provision.0 -
Have a look at my thread, £22.40 for TV, BB and line rental from Sky. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/55599710

you need to give notice then wait a week and you will get a letter through post offering 50% minimum off as well as a credit to your account
if not just ring the up and say you have recieved one
theres many threads about this0 -
What will the 52 meg speed do for you that 38 doesn't ?
For some it's worth the extra for others it isn't. I'm a heavy user but 40 is ample for the needs we have (3 adults all heavy users)
Around a tenner for Fibre is a good price.
Moving to another provider always comes with risks .
How good is the current service ? Stable ? Reliable? Etc
Did Sky give you a quote for Fibre Max too?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Once you cancel another provider can't take over the line so unless you are happy with a break in service up to several weeks the above is a really bad idea. Fine for TV not for BB. For BB always get the new provider to take over the service for you rather than cancel to avoid problems.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If you move back as well as the free BB offer Sky will offer to take care of your termination charges up to £100 (you pay Plusnet then send proof to Sky and they will credit your bill with them). Might get you out a bit sooner.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm not prepared to cancel until I've got something else in place. As for offers, I've cancelled sky TV (it was switched off on the 12th) as we didn't need it & I haven't had a single offer to rejoin... not that I want any. What will the 52 meg speed do for you that 38 doesn't ?

The extra speed would come in handy & at an extra £1.30 per month would be well worth it.
Your other points are valid, I've been with sky for a long time & never had any problems so I'm reluctant to switch... hence the original question I suppose.
I keep reading about other sky customers being offered stuff like free line rental for 12 months if they renewed but I didn't get offered anything like that, just £9 a month off what I'm paying now & only £1.30 cheaper than BT.
EDIT: No they didn't quote for Fibre Max saying that up to 38Mb is the fastest I can expect. All the independent sites reckon I'm good for up to 60Mb.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Do they though? Like I said above, I gave my 31 days notice cancelling my TV package, didn't get a single offer...nothing!
It's been off since the 12th & still nothing.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
