Presumably if you did inform your house insurance it would go down as a claim even if paid by the other party, in the same way as car insurance.

This would then have to be declared at renewal.
  • A claim is legal term for invoking an indemnity.
If you do not make a claim on a policy you are party to there is no claim.
This would fall under declaring "incidents".

How incredibly rude. Why single me out? Because I won't be talked down to?! :rotfl:

I was just giving that amount (£10K) as an example. But of course you probably knew that and chose to ignore it in your quest to try to ridicule me and put me down.

I am NOT wrong in this matter, and your personal attacks and the ones from several others on here say a lot more about you lot!

I'm done on here, so keep making spiteful comments about me, and issuing put-downs; I really couldn't care less. Doesn't change the fact that what I have been saying is not wrong. I'm just done on here because I refuse to be baited by the likes of you.

    tatty toodles!

It is very wrong. When people who actually work and earn a good living in the Insurance business attempt to educate you why not listen?

Most but not all Insurers would want to know about the incident at renewal.

It depends on whether or not the Insurer asks a specific question that encompasses you claiming from a third party.

Unfortunately it does seem like they have told you the correct thing. A few years ago the roof tile from my house flew off in high winds and hit the neighbours car. I called my home insurance, told them what happened, they said "no problem, we'll fix the roof, but your neighbour has to claim from their car insurance who will then come to us".

I was pretty surprised as it was me who advised my insurance, but they just refused to deal with the neighbours car without their insurers getting involved.

I even got my insurers to send me a letter to that effect so I could show the neighbours it wasn't just me being awkward, but it's what they insurers said had to be done.

All got sorted in the end, but just added hassle for no reason.

This is the exact opposite of the OP's situation though. In your example, you would have to be proven to have been negligent for your insurer to be liable for the damage to your neighbours' car. In the OP's case liability is not at question so the insurer of the TP vehicle is on the hook for the damage to the OP's property. The TP insurer will have no need or requirement to contact the OP's home insurer (whether there is cover in force or not).

You've only been singled out because the information that you are stating as fact is incorrect. Don't take it personally - we all get things wrong...

No-one has been rude to you.

When the OP is being advised to "ignore" you that isn't intended to be anything other than the literal meaning of the word.

ie. That you should be "disregarded" - as everyone has politely pointed out, your advice is incorrect, and will confuse not only the OP, but others who come here in the future and find this thread when searching for help over a similar issue.

It is perfectly probable for the car insurance to deal with THIS instance without home insurance being involved.

If something structural had happened to the property then they should be informed and there may even be a clause in the policy stating they need to be informed in any event.

Usually there is a claims team who would deal with this - if the driver had driven off but details had been captured then it would have been seen as an alleged claim and usually investigated by the car insurance claim team.

Most car insurers will want to deal with this totally in house as it works out cheaper for them - they don't want anyone adding THEIR admin fees on top which is what would usually happen. Also there is a good chance they may simply offer to get the work done for you and sort everything out - again because they can use their own network of repairers. That's how they save money in a claim. Doesn't greatly matter if it's a car or a fence they hit, principles of the claim would remain the same. If there is disputed liability then both insurers should be involved from the outset, but as that isn't an issue in this event then no need to get all stressed about it... OP hope it gets fixed soon for you!

When the matter has been resolved take a few minutes to write a complaint to them about the shoddy way they treated you, and the lies they told causing you unnecessary stress and wasted time getting them to accept their responsibility over this, and ask them to explain why they acted so badly, and to compensate you over this
