No sorry - some banks now you can do everything online and don't need to go in, such as Atom bank.

Yeah, I managed to sign up for Barclays online without going into branch or anything, just simply did a multiple choice credit check on me really. So asking me who I opened a bank account with in April last year, and gave me a choice of three or four choices, and then one at the bottom saying 'None of these'
  • Jesus Christ. I know Barclays' ID and fraud checks are virtually non existent but they surely don't do Authenticate IQ on you?

She's shown her Bulgarian ID card, her passport, proof of UK address in terms of a bank statement, a university letter. Practically anything she can show, they're just not accepting this.
Having established that ID/passport aren't sufficient by themselves and that proof of address is needed, she needs to show one of the valid proofs of address as listed at https://www.halifax.co.uk/securityandprivacy/privacy/proving-your-identity/, i.e.
    • Bank, Building Society or Credit Union statement showing transactions made within the last 3 months and your printed name and address. Statements showing only interest entries or carry forward balances are not acceptable
    • Current UK non photo driving licence (only if it is not been used as your proof of identification)
    • Utility Bill/Utility Statement or Certificate/Letter from a supplier of utilities dated within the last 3 months
    • Local authority tax bill/council tax bill for current year
    • Benefits or pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit (only if it has not been used as your proof of identification).
I'd hope that we've exhausted the subject of how her transaction-less TSB statement doesn't qualify and I don't see how a university letter would assist, but you claimed in post #8 above that "She's taken the majority of those in to be fair" - exactly which of the items on the above list has she taken in?

Westie983 also mentions various other documents in post #13 but has so far been unable or unwilling to provide a quotable source or any backup to the assertion that other documents (over and above those confirmed online as being OK) are valid.

The thing is though, the TSB statement did show transactions within the last three months. She's also made the odd transaction of say, £10 or something to my account when I've bought things for her on my credit card if I've got things together. I was under a bit of financial trouble at that point so she was helping me out. So they are there on the statement.

Not sure why you've waited nearly a week to choose to mention this after your OP didn't hint at the bank adviser's contention (about no transactions on statement) being factually inaccurate! File a formal complaint accordingly....
