Does she need to inform them that she is receipt of CA and i'm in receipt of PIP? And is the claim completed over the phone or do they send out a form to complete?
Yes she does tell them of CA & PIP, also that you have claimed ESA Conts.

Your ESA will be done over phone. Not sure about IS...maybe by phone, maybe by form that they will send her. I will know the answer to this question tomorrow evening. But you will both have made your claims today...anyway... right?
I normally do all the phone calls as she isn't very good on the phone and normally gets me to speak on her behalf.
That will be ok, if they do it by phone, she has to be there, but you can do almost all of it on her behalf.

I found out, an IS claim for sickness is done over the phone, you will need a med cert from start of claim, SSP1, and last 5 weekly wage slips, or last 3 monthly wage slips.

Thanks, Sorry not been about for a few days to reply... Going to sort everything out on Tomorrow/Friday as this week has been manic with hospital appointments etc.

That's alot of proof needed... Isn't a SSP1 not issued till the SSP has run its course of 28 weeks? And work have all her med certs since being off sick shes due to get a new one next Thursday.

Can't she just claim IS based on receiving CA and not SSP? As CA was backdated from 22/8/2016 so almost 3 months.

If not just say for instance for ease (save chasing up old med certs) we wait till her SSP runs out after 28 weeks can we then not base the IS claim on the premises of her getting CA from the date SSP runs out thus avoiding Med certs,SSP1 and wage slips evidence?

I understand we could lose benefits that we could be entitled to but her SSP has almost ran its course.

Would have thought as the employer knows how long they are going to pay SSP for they can issue an SSP1 straightaway.

Ask work for the original med3 back (they don't need them and can take photo copies for themselves) or ask doctor for duplicate med3 of all that have been issued in the last 3 months (the period she is claiming for).

Yes she can claim IS as a carer from the start date of the CA, then she only needs to supply wageslips (and possibly an SSP1 as evidence of pay stopping).... in which case, she selects option 1 for a New Claim
but does NOT select Option 1 again for a sickness claim,
instead she chooses one of the other options, and when she gets through to someone, I believe they will send her an Income Support Claim form, it won't be done over the phone.

If she waits till SSP has run it's course and then claim IS as a carer, she will still need to supply wage slips to show that she has stopped being paid and possibly the SSP1 as evidence to show the end date of pay.

But claiming IS as a carer might result in a Jobcentre interview, that (presumably) would not happen if claiming IS as sick.

Also if she claims IS (whether for sick or as CA), Jobcentre might want to see you for an interview as a non working partner, but if you are claiming ESA C yourself this would not happen. I don't know what happens to IS claimants and their partners in respect of Jobcentre interviews.
  • Hi there I just thought I'd bump my old post so it helps.

I have a question and don't remember asking it can you claim Income Support based on Carers Allowance whilst still being employed but not being paid anything (i.e your employer is just keeping you on the books to leave an open return) as my last SSP payment is on 22nd Jan.

I am going to go to my local CAB tomorrow and just drop in and hopefully get seen and get a full benefits check, I rang up and tried to make an appointment but they said they can't not very helpful.

Also will I get pulled in for WFI/WRA much if we claim IS? As I can't write as my right hand is locked up due to Dystonia/Parkinson's which in turn makes my feels socially awkward... I try and hide my disability as much as possible I don't think I have come to terms that I am disabled and am trying to hide it because of fear of embarrassment

yes, you can claim income support whilst being employed and not receiving SSP because you receive carers allowance.

you may get called for WFI's but it is unlikely

Well we rang today, they took all the details over the phone and setup an appointment at my local Jobcentre for Wednesday think it's to complete the claim but did mention it is a WFI... She mentioned I didn't have to attend but can do if I'd like.

Over the phone she did ask if I was getting any benefits I said PIP and that was all that was mentioned on that matter which confused me, as I thought the rate would be required? Or will it be on their system when they process the claim? Same goes with CA mentioned it but didn't go in to rates... That normal with a telephone form? As I want to make sure we get the Disability Premium and Carer Premium.

Asking you if you are receiving any other benefits saves them time initially as they don't have to search to find them. They will just check on the systems to discover the rates you are receiving.

The WFI went ok just supplied some identification spoke about help from a carer's charity and said she'd get a letter further down the line.

Then we had a call today from the income support new claims team in Doncaster, said they needed a bit more info they asked when my partner went off sick and what was our amount of SSP on Friday 27th Jan (That was the final amount paid till 22nd Jan).

I hope they are not basing the claim on SSP as the last day we were paid up until 22nd Jan which we declared when we made the claim on the 23rd and also supplied the SSP1 so we have nil income from the 23rd barring PIP/CA.

I would have thought the SSP1 would have sufficed?
Surely that last SSP payment won't affect our entitlement from the 23rd?

Well I rang the IS claim line up and found out that they have based the claim on us in receipt of SSP! (The Carers Premium and Disability Premium is added) The claim start date is 23/1/2017.

She said she isn't sure how it had been worked out but she seems to think that because we got paid 4 weeks in arrears from work (The last payment was 30/1/2017 £353.80) that it's classed as being in receipt of SSP still till we get paid £0 on the 27/2/2017.

That can't be right? Or is it?

Also a problem being is she won't get any more wage slips as she isn't due to any pay so how could we prove it's ended if they are not using the SSP1 form?

Anyways we resent the SSP1 to Doncaster Income Support new claims for them to re look at it via our local Jobcentre... We did send it with the original claim when we went to the local Jobcentre for the WFI and to provide Identity but seems they ain't used it?

    Thanks Trev.
