How to stop people smoking outside a school.

There will be lots of kids in schools who pass by non smoking parents on their way out, only to go home to two smoking parents. Better for people to smoke outdoors than in.0

You quoted my first post twice in which I responded to someone stating they should complain to drivers of cars about the pollution. So I'm simply stating that compared to the post it was responding to it isn't. post 9 I replied to in post 18. You in post 19 and 21 called my post melodramatic
I can see I have quoted you but each one is a different quote in order to respond to certain points.
I have not quoted the same thing twice nor responded to you or said anything about cars / pollution or shouting at cars and feel you should perhaps reply to whomever you were talking to about that?
It doesn't matter though it is probably me being silly / losing the threadThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
No it's still legal to drink. A police office asking you to stop doing something legal does not make it illegal.
But in your post - post 39 - you said that if people do not stop when asked by police then it is Obstructing a Police Officer - section 89(2) Police Act 1996 - is it not illegal to do so?
Or if you are drinking in the street, and stop when asked then it was legal but if you refuse then it suddenly turns into a different crime of obstructing a police officer in their duty so become illegalThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Maybe OP will return and either confirm or deny :rotfl:
I know I am making assumptions, but there we are.
:rotfl: I don't know but giggled at the assumption!
melanzana, I think you may be onto something with the suggestion of it coming from the children directly to the parents. sevendayweekend, great point about opening the discussion and using it to educate the children. This thread has, as I said before, really opened my eyes to my own prejudices and the conflicts between my ex-smoker/educated parent/politically liberal viewpoints. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

Being mindful of setting a good example, rather than working within the law, what would you suggest?
Minding your own business.
Or accepting that your kid won't get to have a lunchtime club because Miss, who was giving up her legal entitlement to a break in exchange for 5 minutes outside later in the day, now has to wait for one other member of staff, get in their car, navigate the staff car park and drive away from the school to have a smoke and then return, park, sign in at reception and then go back to classes/offices, thus taking up considerably more time than five minutes just outside where they were so close, they didn't need to sign out.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Accept you don't stand a chance getting smokers that smoke outside a school gate to move. It may be legal but it's a drug and they are addicts. Addicts need their fix regardless of other people including children. I'll never forget bringing my daughter home from hospital, after spending 5 months in the NICU and coming home on oxygen her first experience into the world involved passing 8 addicts frantically puffing away in the foyer of the women's unit. Smoking comes first to many smokers.0

I work for a school and our staff aren't allowed to smoke within sight of the school gate. There is nothing we can do about the parents though.Chin up, Titus out.0
