Really, really unhappy....a hole in my best winter woollie. I've gone through my box that over-summers my jumpers and the rest look okay. Maybe, I caught it without noticing......who knows - but any suggestions about moth proofing that does not smell orrible would be gratefully received.SallyD0

I unpacked my winter woollies and they were hopelessly infected.......blooming nightmare. Put everything in bags in the freezer for at least three days. Or if you can, wash on hot wash. Moths hate light, clean everything, hoover and throw away the hoover bag immediately. Cedar doesn't work but lavender oil does seem to. I wiped all surfaces inside my wardrobes and drawers after hoovering. I ended up with an insurance claim of over £500 and at some point will have to buy a complete winter wardrobe. There is never one moth, there will be many grubs and they will hatch, you need to act fast.0

I have just discovered that my best skirt (wool) is riddled with moth holes. I don't know when they got there as it was lurking, forgotten, at back of very full cupboard. I have used all sorts of anti-moth stuff in the past - scented cedar balls, non-chemical, nice lavender or lemon grass sachets, and fierce chemical sachets but nothing really works. I know I now need to empty cupboard, wash everything, hoover cupboard thoroughly etc etc. But does anyone know of anything I can use as an anti-moth last rinse on individual garments when I wash them, which I think would be more effective. I've never heard of anything like this but would very much like to deal with the problem that way rather than hanging ineffective (and expensive) things in the cupboard.0

 Freeze them! wash and dry your woolly things as usual, then put in a bag in the freezer for 48 hours. My mum told me this and it seems to have worked, though I only did it with the affected jumper - should probably have organised a freeze relay of all our woollen things but then where would the food go?? If anyone does know of a final rinse or some such, that'd be brilliant.
Good luck! (and apologies in advance if I've committed some terrible forum faux pas, I'm brand new to this.)Ginny

Hi, I have searched through quite a bit of this thread and not found any advice yet, I am sorry if it is here already.
Right i have found a number of small holes in some tops that are stored in our wardrobe:eek: I am assuming this is from Moth larvae? I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on how to rid the wardrobe of this problem and how to ensure my clothes are safe from further attack??
Thanks a lot in advance :beer:Leopardlady

Hi Leopardlady,
There's an earlier thread with lots of advice that may help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

Thanks for the move, loads of great advice, i will get hoovering, and washing and will leave lavender throughout the wardrobe, and see what happens after that. I hate moths and make OH kill them or get rid of them as they make me sqirm, too many times with them getting stuck in my hair!
Oh well, thanks againLeopardlady

Anyone got any fool proof ways of ridding my house of moths? They're chomping on everything and I have no idea where they're coming from. I don't have a wardrobe, just a hanging rail and I'm sick of taking stuff down to find little holes. They seem to be in every room in the house...HELP!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

You need to get hoovering, washing, freezing & chucking. There doesn't seem to be any quick fix. I had the clothes moth larvae in my clothes and in a old mattress in my attic. They were also in the carpets under every piece of furniture, box, bookcase etc all through the house. You need to vacuum like a thing possessed and then put ant powder down before you replace furniture. I've used hundreds of impregnated things I bought in the supermarket called Autan in with clothes I can't keep freshly laundered (suits etc). After a year we seem to be winning, but only just.
Good Luck!0
