Gatwick North Petrol Station

I was told the signs are in the petrol station in the parking bays...
I live a good 45 mins from Gatwick so not easy to get pictures .....
So should i hold back from sending the above template ....thanks0 -
Looking at the google link ..... where are the signs ?
Sadly, the Streetview links only show the site from the "access" road, and are from late 2015 (so are a year old).
It's entirely possible that the signs are present where the PPC claims and these are just simply not visible from Streetview...
... although there should be some sort of notification signage on entry, even if it's just a single sign that says "T&Cs APPLY" in big letters.0 -

You might consider it worthwhile to nip there and take some pictures while you can and while the signs are unlikely to have changed, should you need them in future.
But no, there is no real need to hold back from sending the template letter. Just accept that it is likely to be rejected and is purely a mechanism for getting a POPLA code.0 -
Hi yes
I had a look myself you cannot see the signs from the road......
sorry to repeat but does the template above still apply ?
thanks0 -

It does. Anything you send at this stage will be rejected, so don't waste too much time on it. The rejection should include a POPLA code which you can use to get this thing cancelled (hopefully).
Did the driver pay in cash? Use a clubcard?
How long was it actually there for? Did the car visit the station twice (such as fuel one trip, and a snack/coffee on the way back)?
It doesn't sound like they care the car was a genuine customer or not, just that it stayed on the site for more than 20 mins.
You should complain to Shell about this harassment, and ask them to cancel it if they want your custom in future.0 -

Why would it not apply? The main basis of the template letter is that the signs are not clear, not obvious, not visible and not remarkable. I think we've probably just established that is likely to be the case on the basis of this thread.
Just send the template as-is. It's largely irrelevant as they'll decline it anyway. You may as well just send a letter that says:I am the Registered Keeper. I dispute this charge. Cancel it or send me a POPLA code.
To be 100% clear:
SEND THE TEMPLATE LETTER AS-IS. NO NEED TO AMEND ANYTHING BUT THE RELEVANT PERSONAL DETAILS, CAR REG AND THE PCN NUMBER0 -
paid by cash the car was there for 45 mins maybe and it was a fill up pay and park to eat sandwich from the garage !!0

Well you can certainly dispute that it was there for the 55 mins claimed, and insist they prove it (they can't - they don't have access to CCTV - it's either ANPR or more likely a "warden" hiding behind a bush).0 -
they use cctv cameras there entry and exit apparantly.....0

The forum assisted POPLA appeal in the thread below for a pcn issued at Gatwick Shell North saw ECP throw in the tea towel!
The thread also includes several photos of the signage.
