Actually you were the one who attempted to diss the marque thus began this little 'debate'. I merely threw in another possible option for the OP which he/she may not of considered.
End of debate.
I think when you say "diss the marque" it shows how biased you are towards Fiat.
The OP didn't ask for other options just opinions on Yaris and i20.
I commented initially as the press reports on Toyota recalls didn't give a fair picture of how these recalls compare with other manufacturers policies. I have been affected twice with such recalls on a Toyota Yaris.
My dissing Fiat seems to be pointing out that I wouldn't personally buy a Fiat due to reports in the press about poorer reliability compared to Toyota or Hyundai. I attached a link to a typical survey of manufacturers relative reliability.
Given the OP had reliability issues with their Mini, potentialy reliability was a major consideration in choosing Toyota or Hyundai both of which also give 5 year warranties not the 3 that Fiat gives.0 -
Rain Shadow, the mazda would be an option apart from the garage, theyre too big and uninterested near where I live. I had a mazda in the distant past and it never missed a beat in 4.5 years so if there was a recommnded dealer it woukd have been on my list.
That's a shame. My Mazda dealer is small and excellent. Not that I've needed them much, apart from servicing for two cars for the last 7+ years. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
[QUOTE=Haylescom;71594194 The i10 felt better quality, gear changes were smoother, and to get a mid-range model the price was significantly lower than the pug. [/QUOTE]
Isn't the i10 a size smaller than the 208? I'd have thought an i20 was a fairer price comparison? You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
I've got a 2008 Yaris 1.4 Diesel, and I'm still delighted with it 8 years on. Toyota service centres are good value with excellent customer service. I only do about 6K miles a year now, and don't have any problems with the diesel, but I do do regular high speed runs. I wouldn't buy another diesel though simply because they are now consider bad for the environment and you are likely to be banned from or have to pay extra to drive them in cities in the near future.
My dealer lent me a fairly new Yaris for the day while mine was in for it's service. I didn't like the gears. Six instead of five, so fifth gear at 30 and 6th at 40. Lots of gear changes. If I was buying a new Yaris, I would want an automatic. (I only go into fourth at 30 and fifth at 40 on my diesel Yaris; I guess six gears give better fuel consumption but they make driving hard work).0 -
Rain Shadow I'm an idiot, it was a 108! :rotfl:0

The current Yaris dates from 2011, and will be replaced some time in 2017 with a new model. The i20 is relatively new.
This may or may not be a factor in your buying decision. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
