The Yaris is considerably dearer, isnt it? OH just paid £18,000 for one!

Their prices must have increased considerably over the last three years or it is the top spec. hybrid, which is over £18k list.
My Icon Plus cvt Multidrive (pre registered) with lots of bells and whistles plus some extras including a space saver spare kit as well as the tyre inflation stuff then supplied (that would have been the deal breaker), was £12450 on the road. List, then, on that model was £15725

Not a top spec hybrid, just a "Design" 1.33 cc with a lot of extras, two tone paint, sat nav, folding windows & the insurance that pays out the invoice price & didnt get any dealer discount.

Toyota seem to be having quite a few re-calls recently. No experience with Hyundai.

Personally I would take a look at the new Fiat 500 or Panda.

Toyota tend to have recalls for problems many other manufacturers just wouldn't bother about. As a Toyota owner it gives me more confidence in them.

Personally I would be wary of buying a Fiat based on reported lower reliability.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get into the situation where I would say to a friend "Would you like to come in my Yaris?"

Hmm. Well speaking as a Fiat owner (since 1978) I can speak from actual experience rather than rely on a magazine who's readers have probably never owned a Fiat.

So "based on the reported reliability" that is advertised by the "expert" publications, Please try again. I currently own a Fiat Punto which I bought brand new in 2000. Guess what... it's still sailing sailing through MOT's and runs like a good un'.

Well, that's pretty definitive a survey based on a sample of one. That definitively beats published surveys doesn't it?
  • I've got a 64 plate i10, 1 litre. At the time I bought it I also test drove the Peugeot 208 as I only needed a town runabout. The pug felt cheap inside, like I could snap bits off. It was fairly noisy and a high clutch too (I've always owned Pugs previously).
The i10 felt better quality, gear changes were smoother, and to get a mid-range model the price was significantly lower than the pug. The garage were also far less intense in terms of getting the sale, whereas Bristol Street (pug) were phoning regularly.
Now my mileage has significantly increased the i10 is not as quick off the mark as I'd like on the motorway, but it is only the 1 litre. I'd definitely consider the 1.2 in future.
My sister has a Fiat 500, 59 plate from new and has never had any issues other than routine maintenance, new exhaust etc.

Actually I've owned 14 and from my experience that number will definitely increase, survey or no survey. ;)

So what you've owned 14 Fiats? If you bothered to notice, the OP asked for opinions on the Toyota Yaris or Hyundai i20 not on Fiats or your vehicle owning history.

Actually you were the one who attempted to diss the marque thus began this little 'debate'. I merely threw in another possible option for the OP which he/she may not of considered.

    End of debate.
