Hastings Direct - USELESS!

This past year my car has been insured through Hastings Direct, I was involved in a none fault incident in May.
I have had no written correspondence from them. They have never telephoned me. My emails to them went ignored. Average on hold time when telephoning them is 45 minutes. Customer service is absolutely dire.
At the end of my policy I switched insurers & my claim is still not settled which means I have paid more as I have had to declare it as an at fault claim.
I would not recommend anyone using Hastings Direct at all.

Look up their complaints procedure and make a complaint. Not sure what you would gain from it though.

For the record and in the interest of balance, I've been with Hastings and had wonderful service.

You first say the claim was "none fault", then that you told your new insurer it was a "fault" claim??

Regarding Hastings, they do monitor the net for any bad publicity, and have a rep who comes on here to limit damage when upset customers go public, and get things moving.

As you are an ex-customer, we'll have to see if they respond as normal!!

If your claim is non fault is there a reason that you didn't just claim off the other persons insurance?

They don't know exactly what I do, but I work in the insurance industry and so that's what I have as my occupation. Maybe they're a bit more careful because they think they won't get away with any mistakes?

Either way, I know the reviews are bad and will most likely switch at next renewal. They were the cheapest by a long shot at a time I needed to keep costs down. Don't think I'll be riding my luck any longer than needs be.
  • Hastings direct are cheap for a reason!! Deceitful...I will be warning everyone I know to stay clear!!!

We have our insurance with them and had to make a claim last year and the whole process was painless and settled very quickly. I suppose it depends on how complicated the claim is.

We have been with them for about 2 years now and so far no complaints.
  • I'm still with them for a couple of weeks more and have been for a few years, admittedly I've never had to make a claim but I've never had an issue with them and have always got through almost instantly. I'm only moving to Direct Line because they're much cheaper for myself.
  • My car insurance with Hastings Direct is due for renewal shortly but I have accepted a quote from another provider.
The renewal letter states that the policy will be automatically renewed unless I contact them. I have been told by an advisor at their call centre that my policy will not be renewed but that they are unable to remove my debit card details as these are held by RBS. Is this normal? Is there no way that I can get these details removed?

Why would you want to? I received my 'sorry you're leaving' letter just today from Hastings Direct confirming that I'm not renewing in Feb. They're not going to rip you off.

Did they mention sending you a letter as confirmation?
