Exchange name: Sevenoaks
Exchange status: Fibre enabled
Cabinet number: 36
Technology: FTTC0 -
I've been calling BT again today to send another engineer out, whilst also enquiring about whether fibre is available. They confirmed fibre is enabled at that cabinet, but they are not accepting a new fibre connections there because the demand is too high and there is a waiting list. They never ask if I want to join the waiting list or explain how long the wait would be.
BT suggested fibre-to-premises to me. They transferred me to that department but I was on hold too long so had to give up. I have the direct number to call back and enquire. What is the likelihood of being able to get fibre-to-premises?0 -
Ok that makes it completely different.
Openreach have provided fibre to that cabinet, but I suspect it wasn't a new cabinet just for your estate.
Given that when it was first installed for fibre it served 159 lines, the fibre cabinet seems to be one of the smaller ones (96 or 128 ports). I've found it on google maps at the entrance if the estate outside Technical Treaments Limited.
The cabinet must now be full in that all of the ports are utilised by customers. It is down to Openreach now to increase the capacity by adding a second fibre twin cabinet.
I suggest you ask your developer to speak to Openreach to see what/if any plans they have to do this. I would also contact Openreach yourself via their website to see if they have any plans. Only Openreach would know this, you ISP, BT, nor any other would have access to this information.
Not many ISP's offer the waiting list service available from BT Wholesale/Openreach.
Unlikely that you'll get FTTP now, it needs a whole load of network infrastructure and planning. You're a lot more likely to get a second fibre cabinet.
Let us know how you get on.0 -
Yes, that's the location. And yes, I have raised this with Berkeley Homes, who say they have been in touch with Openreach for months. All Berkeley can tell me is that "it is coming" but nobody knows when. Apparently, this has been going on for ages and (so I'm told) led to the Berkeley MD making contact with BT/Openreach about this very issue at this very location. All Berkeley can tell me now is that they have raised it within their own organisation as high as they can, and that all they can suggest now is that me the customer also join in! This is exactly why I want to contact Openreach myself, hence starting this thread. Thank you for the information.
As I said above, this is no longer about fibre, not really. All I care about now is having an adequate broadband connection as a minimum, not the rubbish 0.25Mbps I currently get. Openreach is sending another engineer this Thursday to have a look. I'm uncertain what this visit will conclude that's different to last week's engineer.
Thanks, boatman! I'll be using these links.0 -
Surely the developer should have checked out first as to whether fibre was actually available to the their development before promising purchasers that it would be?0

I don't remember exactly what they said to me at the time. I'm not upset that I don't have fibre. I'm upset that I don't have more than the equivalent of a 56K dial-up modem at present! There was no paperwork or spec given to me at the time that said I would have fibre; I asked the sales people at the time and they told me that fibre would be coming to the area. They didn't promise anything. However, I doubt they could foresee that I wouldn't have any internet access at all. What I'm trying to do now is see when and how I can get fibre whilst also trying to get my current line fixed.0

What is the expected ADSL speed when using the above dsl checker?
I would definitely get in touch with Openreach via the links above.
From the time a cabinet becomes full it can take 6-12months for a new cabinet to be installed.0 -
Depending on what I look at, whether it's searching my postcode on the BT site, or referring to my account confirmation email from BT when I set up the broadband, I am quoted between 8Mbps and 11Mbps.
When I search on the Openreach "When can I get fibre?" checker, it says "accepting orders" as the area is enabled for superfast fibre but that demand at the cabinet is high right now and they are working to increase capacity, so can't actually offer fibre today.0 -

Put your telephone number into the DSL checker and it'll tell you the estimated speed for your line for ADSL.

Don't use the postcode checker. It's too vague0 -
