Coveredinbees!!!! wrote: »I sold a washing machine on ebay for a tenner, it worked but needed the spin looking at all out lined in the ad. The bloke turns up and asks for the water pipe to connect it which I didn't have and wasn't in the listing then started to try and haggle. Told him to either pay up or leave it and go. Cheeky !!!!!! then asked me to help him put it in his car, some people!!
Sold a few big cupboards/TVs etc. Each time put in advert you will need a big car/someone to help you even though I'll help you put it in at my end.
Then you get a young girl show up on her own in a fiesta!0 -

I had someone who after a lot of emails back and forth and several missed collection dates arrive to pick up a huge three piece suite consisting of a 3 and a 2 seater reclining sofa ( we had used a freebie type group and hadn't asked for a penny) Despite me having given measurements, warned them over and over that this would not a high top van as the backs of the sofa were quite tall, they arrived in a small family estate car. My husband went out to assess the size of the van and nearly laughed when he saw the car, 2 adults, 2 young children and a dog all expecting to fit in the car with the suite. The stupid thing was they actually wanted me and my husband to take the sofa out and try to see if we could fit it in the car- as the person they had borrowed the car from said it was easily big enough for a sofa. They were actually quite unpleasant about it when my husband refused to move the sofa an inch and tried, with the use of a tape measure to show them that the sofa was not going anywhere near the boot of the car.
We also had several people say yes please then insist we needed to deliver it ourselves.
After that we sold it cheaply to a dealer despite being warned by admin on the Facebook group that we shouldn't be selling to dealers when there were genuine families in need of a free sofa.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Me too, especially when an agreed or auction price. Sold a motorbike on ebay, the guy travelled 150+ miles with his dad,he gave the bike a good looking over and was content it met the description. But, Dad steps in and says the back tyre needs replacing and offers £150 less to cover the cost of the tyre, I point out that the ad stated the rear tyre was scuffed/worn on edges and needs replacing. Dad kept arguing the case.....
I simply pushed the bike back in the garage, locked it, thanked them for wasting my time and went back in the house. Heard them both arguing, Dad knocks my door, tells me they are happy to pay the price, i refused to sell it to them as they were chancers.
Sold it to a bike shop for £100 less than auction price, but felt good telling them to do one.debt free, savings in the bank1 -
I've sold numerous things on Gumtree and never used ebay but find as long as you tell people from the outset what you want then there is no real issues.
I think the thing here is that people who both buy and sell can be really rude so you either bite your tongue if you wish to sell or buy or just simply walk away.0 -
I had a car on Gumtree and someone emails asking will you take 15% less than asking price.
"OK for a quick sale if you can be here by 10am on saturday morning with cash"
I text him Friday night to confirm still OK for Saturday morning....
"Is 1 ok mate?"
Sigh.
2 pm no buyer so I text and ask if he's still coming.
"I'm a bit busy just now mate will text u after my dinner"
I point out it will be dark at half four and I have someone else wanting to view the car tomorrow......
"Ok kl lol"
I enquiry is he wanting to see the car or not? He informs me he's "in town but will text me when he's heading back".
Then at 1130 pm I get a text "alright mater sorry for messing ya about I'll cal u in the morn once I wake up"
No call obviously!0 -
Best I had was guy turned up. I recognised him as working in local car dealer. He looked at car yep I'll have it be back at 6pm tomorrow with the cash to collect it. Job done.
Of course, 6pm next day no sign of. Phoned him no answer, txt him no answer. I even emailed him his work address. No reply.
So a week later I sold the car to someone else.
THREE weeks later I get a text. Sorry I've been a bit tied up, I'll be around 6pm with the cash. So I said sorry I didnt here from you its gone now.
Then he had the cheek to phone me, have a go at me saying we had a verbal agreement to sell the car to him and I messed him around! Seriously!0 -
I advertised a very nice oak desk.
Nerd and wife come to view.
They spend forever talking, looking, pulling out drawers then leaning on open drawers.
"What are you doing?" ... "We need to test strength".... grit my teeth.
"Don't think it will fit in our car. Does it come apart?"... "I don't know"
He produces a screw driver. ........ "Excuse me, but you will need to pay for it first" ......... "I will leave it then"

I've just had a belter on facebook.
My first 'bite' for ages for a very heavy item that has a little bit of value. Had a 'yes please' at full price followed the next day by a 'I'm currently overseas but am flying in on XX and then driving off up North to visit family. Any chance you can meet me at Heathrow near the car rental desks?

Biggest gumtree crime are the people who just text a random number, if you're selling a car for £500, morons think that a text just saying 100 will temp anyone?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"
