Postal Services signing for goods

however the receiver /buyer of goods is the one who pays for postage. And the pp practice is as you say long established and their bosses give them premission but the secretaries sign thier own names they dont sign their bosses. this is my point posties/drivers sign as a member of the household/receiver family member. And you dont know the law. Under the law identity theft is classed as someone taking on your identity and that is what the postie/driver does. So there i would advise you to learn the meaning of terms. and not be so cheeky to OP.
Craig, I'm sorry if you think I'm being cheeky, that was not my intention.
You say I do not know the law, particualry regarding identity theft - please can you point me to the legislation you are referring to, maybe I have missed something which you have understood better.
AFAIK, the drivers are not signing as members of your family, they are signing as employees of the company (like a secretary) to indicate the item has been delivered in accordance with their contract with the retailer.
You are not party to the contract between the retailer and the delivery company, and even if you were, you would be restricted by the terms of 3rd party rights clauses within the contract. You may well be paying the retailer for delivery, but you have no say over the delivery contract unless you stipulate that at the point of purchase and the retailer agrees with your terms. I somehow doubt, whether many retailers would agree such arrangements which could vary wildly between customers.
If you are unable to grasp the basic principles of contract and commerical law then I'm afraid you will be disapointed with any answers you get on here. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings
