As those who never took a theory test or passed before the current practical won't necessarily know what they include, how could we be expected to pass without knowing what it is that these entail.

There will be people driving (not me) who have never looked under the bonnet of their car, also people (again not me) who perhaps have only driven in Norfolk and Suffolk, or Mid/North Wales, or Scotland, north of Dundee and thus never driven on a motorway.

The theory test is in two parts.

One is a series of questions on the HC, which every driver should be able to answer.

The other is a hazard perception test. This again shouldn't be a problem for any experienced driver, except perhaps those who have never used a mouse.
  • The instructors probably are also taking into account the general standard of driving across the whole test.

Randomly driving in the outside lane may simply be a reflection that the people who have taught the learner have set a bad example (people drive up the A34 from J4 M42 in the right hand lane through several roundabouts for several miles, presumably as they intend to turn right into the Shirley Shopper's car park.

It also may depend on the driver's observation, and he was concerned that in moving back to the left, there was not proper observation (i.e. was the comment rather that having realised that they were driving in the outside lane, they panicked and switched back without proper observation - hence the "someone could have been undertaking" comment). In fact I think that would have been the problem - poor lane choice that was corrected would be a minor, but changing lanes without proper observation would have been a major.

48 out of 50. The ones I got wrong were minimum age to supervise a learner, and a complete brainfart over the trailer limit on an m'way.

Took me about five minutes - and there's 57 allowed. Do people really fail that?

Some slip roads lead you to the outside lane of dual carriageways, if so get left as soon as possible.

If she entered a dual carriageway straight into the outside lane, for example to join from a side road, this is a definate no no.

I guess some people do lol. most of it is common sense but the hazard perception trips a lot of people up.

I've heard that a lot of experienced drivers fail the hazard perception test as they click too quickly, so perceive the hard before the system would expect a learner driver to have picked it up.

lol. where did you hear that?
I'm assuming it was an experienced driver that could not pass it and used it as an excuse rofl
