it's not £60 in their pocket. How much do you think it costs to conduct a test?
I am surprised that rolling back on the hill start does not constitute a fail too.

OK - I misunderstood that - I thought the mistake was in staying too long - not that entering in the first place was the mistake.

So she moved over into lane 2 for no apparent reason at all.

    No wonder she failed.

    End of story.

I'm surprised that what now constitutes a "minor" would have been instant fail when I took my test back in 1970
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I bet most people that have had a licence for that long would fail the theory test now let alone the practical test.

It was a mistake and she moved over after a while
A mistake that rightly cost her a pass. Just one of those things. I'm sure she'll learn from it and pass next time.

If we were given the same tuition for theory and practical as today's learners, why should we fail??

I didn't know "bollock" was allowed on MSE.

Just tough luck. Doesn't sound like she will have a problem next time.

I think Baza was speculating on how mature drivers would do WITHOUT tuition. They should already be fully aware of the contents of the Highway Code, but it's obvious from posts on this and other forums that many (possibly most) are not.

As those who never took a theory test or passed before the current practical won't necessarily know what they include, how could we be expected to pass without knowing what it is that these entail.

There will be people driving (not me) who have never looked under the bonnet of their car, also people (again not me) who perhaps have only driven in Norfolk and Suffolk, or Mid/North Wales, or Scotland, north of Dundee and thus never driven on a motorway.
