You won't be out of pocket if you claim from Royal Mail as Hintza says. Presumably you have a proof of posting certificate? If so then complete the claim form from the post office and send it off. There is no reason that a buyer with good feedback like that should be lying, especially over 3.99!

I have proof of posting, yes. However, all my my proof of postage slips are jumbled up in a cupboard (only about twenty of them).

How would I find out which one is the right slip for this person?
  • Usually the PO writes the house number and postcode on and stamps the receipt if it's a printed out one. Without that I don't think you can claim..sure someone will clarify that though.
  • Are you sure about that?

They've never done that for me.
  • They're meant to... that is, if you ask for proof of posting. If you don't they won't.

Some counters may even print the address.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • So.. my proof of postage is worthless?

I mailed him saying I have proof of postage and he's just mailed me saying if my proof of postage has his address on it. I don't want to say no because he'll then be in full control (if the slip is worthless) but not sure if I should lie and risk being caught out if he wants a picture either!

Regardless of whether your slip is useless or not there is no need to send copies or otherwise to your buyer it is nothing to do with him.

It's been 14 days since posting, so refund and use your receipt to see if RM will pay out on it, the more you drag it out the more the buyer will get cross and cause you problems.

  • I'm quite annoyed really. It's only £3 but I paid Royal Mail to deliver my item and they haven't done so, which will leave me out of pocket.

I really do not think they'll accept the slip as when I compare it to other slips, there is no print to confirm that I actually sent an item to that address.

    Arghhh.

When you ask for a receipt at the end it comes with 4 lines at the bottom.
Most PO' don't cross this out and you can enter the details in of where the items were sent (if the PO didn't do this).
RM will accept this as proof of postage.
  • Ends in..
"IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU RETAIN THIS RECEIPT AS IT IS YOUR PROOF OF POSTING

    For information regarding
    Royal Mail
    products and services
    contact us on
    blah blah blah
    or visit our site
    blah blah blah

this is not a VAT receipt
    Thank you"
  • Has it got 4 dotted lines at the bottom though? Saying house number and post code as headers, just fill in the details there
