What to do

Never been in this situation before. To keep it short..
  • Sold dvd for £3.00
  • 99p for p+p
  • Buyer paid on 5th sep
  • I sent on the 6th
Buyer says he hasn't received it yet. He has good 108 feedback, 100%.

Advice please! biggrin2.gif

You have been around long enough, to know exactly what to do.

If any doubt with buyer get them to wait the 15 days claim from RM and refund. If you believe buyer you might refund before.

You have not sent it by trackable means (I presume) so a PayPal chargeback will succeed anyway.
  • So bascially I'll have to refund the £3.00, but not postage, and by the end of it all I'll have just practically given away a dvd?

Unless for any reason you disbelieve the buyer, you could go to a dispute (but will most probably lose).

But if I was the buyer I would be expecting the P+P refunded as well and if it wasn't I would be claiming via PayPal.

Put yourself in buyers shoes, he has bought an item and its not been received.
  • So I'll be out 99p, which I paid for postage plus the actual dvd.

I understand putting myself in the buyers shoes, but he could also put himself in the sellers shoes.

I don't get it though, if it's as simple as that [buyer says he hasn't received item, and has high percentage of winning paypal dispute] then what's stopping everyone from doing this?

Ahh well. Guess I'll have to refund.
  • You won't be out of pocket if you claim from Royal Mail as Hintza says. Presumably you have a proof of posting certificate? If so then complete the claim form from the post office and send it off. There is no reason that a buyer with good feedback like that should be lying, especially over 3.99!
  • So I'll be out 99p, which I paid for postage for

Hmmm no you didn't your buyer paid that. Do as is suggested, do you really think it's right that you shouldn't refund??
  • I always pay 70p extra for recorded and then add 90p to the auctions P+P.

I can't stand the hassle of buyers claiming they never got their item, happens far too much on ebay. Some are genuine but some are not.

I couldn't possibly afford to add that sort of money to my post and package costs...my competitors woudl wipe the floor with me. I'm happy to use standard mail and just refund and then reclaim losses from the RM. If I send 100 packages a month I save myself £70 by not using recorded, and having seen posts on other threads about the rarity of recorded delivery actually registering as delivered I'm not sure it is worth it at all.

  • I post all my items with proof of postage, which is free at the post office, this covers you up to £34.00. I allow two weeks for the item to arrive if UK, longer if outside. I then put a claim in and wait till I'm paid out by the post office before refunding, however if you have not got proof of postage all you can do is refund the money and hope they are genuine! Take it as a lesson learnt for next time. Good luck

I agree with Soolin about recorded mail. If you look through I sent an item back recorded on 15th Aug it's still showing as not delivered. Thank god for a honest seller. I now have just had the same thing happen again to something sent on the 10th Sept. got a phone call from the company about the letter, and guess what thats also showing as come back later.

Wont bother again it's not worth the money.
Thanks for any help and advice given
