Christmas present for new mum something useful!

I only do ironing when I've got a job interview - so not in the last 6 years.
The notion of an exhausted new parent spending hours ironing baby-gros is just utterly ridiculous. Every spare moment should be spent catching up on precious sleep.
I think I know where the iron is - buried in the conservatory somewhere - but for the life of me I can't think where the ironing board is...
I rarely iron either. Only shirts need ironing really, maybe smart trousers..............so like you say, if it's a job interview, or a funeral, or a wedding!!!
My older relatives used to iron hankies, vests, baby-gros, jeans, shirts, pillowcases, towels, you name it.
Must have been a lot less to do in those days! Frankly, I have a LOT more interesting and pro-active things to be doing, than standing there ironing hankies, towels, and pillowcases!cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -
2 ideas from me
A photo book telling the story from you dating to present day (often see offers for these and heavy discounts)
We have small children and struggle to spend any time together, just the two of us. Having said that, with a baby of 4 months I wouldn't have wanted to leave him/her for any length of time. So, what about a night in gift box? Something you can enjoy together when baby is in bed eg. DVD of fave film/boxset; board game/comp game (if you're into that sort of thing); fave tipple and sweet/savoury treat; you know best what sorts of things you enjoy together0 -

OP, if your wife has a close friend I'd suggest you get her on board. Spa days are much more fun with a friend along. Alternatively, a massage at a beauty salon where it's more usual to go alone.
Completely agree with those who say offering to babysit is a no-no (not that OP suggested otherwise). It's your child too so an expectation not a favour.
Personally I'd prefer a night out with my DH WITHOUT the baby in tow. Those screenings are probably better as an afternoon out with other mums or alone or with DH but certainly not a Christmas treat.0 -
Don't get a box set if you already have a subscription to a streaming service as it will be a waste of money. However if you don't, and have decent broadband, consider a subscription to Netflix, amazon Prime or Now, as you will both be able to use it all year, and if you are new to it you will find a lot of content you want to watch (after the first 6-12 months, you'll probably have exhausted the back catalogue of stuff you like, and will just be watching new releases.0

just a word of caution - I hate spa days, I find them unbelievably dull, and if i had a friend to myself for the day I'd much rather do something interesting - massages leave me with an enormous head ache. I also dislike the idea that "pampering" is having your nails or hair done - this is boring stuff I do for work, not pampering.
So if this is something your wife loved pre-baby great but if not, then I wouldn't do it. I'd also make sure it was something just for her not family or couple things, you shouldn't do "couple" things as her present - it needs time dedicated outside of special occassions because it's important to both of you.
if she's not into spa days (and lots of women aren't) pay for her and a friend to go to see a film or the theatre, go out for a meal or the £50 to spend on herself on whatever she wants.:AA/give up smoking (done)
