Hello,
Im trying to work out what to buy my wife who is a new mum to our son. He will be 4 months at Christmas. We are on a budget and not really doing proper presents this year but would like to get her something sub £50ish that she will make use of. Any ideas??

A voucher towards a pamper day? And a promise to organise/look after baby whilst she enjoys it.0

How about a little hamper of pampering things? You could include a voucher for a massage or a manicure/pedicure, a bottle of bubbly (aldi do a cava which is meant to be very good for under £5), you could include 'vouchers' for things such as a 3-course dinner cooked by you, a child free day (or few hours), etc, a photo album of pics of your new family altogether. Or, what's popular is the thumbprint/handprint necklace (but that could be slightly over budget).
It does obviously depend on your wife, as she could hate all those things I've mentioned! What sort of things does she like/enjoy doing? My daughter was only 10 weeks old by Christmas the year I had her. It all depends on what you think your wife would prefer as you know her better than us but I personally would not have been interested in any of the "baby-free" ideas.
The piece of jewellery with something like my daughter's thumbprint or initials on would have been very welcome. Or new clothes.0 -
Thinking back to my first Christmas as a parent, I would really have liked a massage. Just an hour to truly relax, just for me
Or even just a decent sleep!
However, not everyone enjoys being pampered so what does your wife like? What about a little bracelet with three stars on? One for you, her and the baby?
I also love MrsSaves's meal voucher ideas.0 -
My idea of heaven with the 20/20 hindsight of bringing up 4 kids.....
A set of get out of jail free cards, however many you feel are appropriate for year, half a dozen maybe.
These cards entitle her to play the joker (so to speak) and you take charge of the baby/child whatever you are doing and wherever you are (ie come home from work).
These are to be played in those times mums get when frankly it feels like the word hates you.
Only give them if you can follow through the promise, she plays them in an emergency and they should be treated as such, wether works busy or not, she plays the card you come home.
Its what would have helped me.

When we were skint with little children, the last thing I'd have wanted my DH to spend £50 on would've been a surprise for me. Yes, spend £5 on a novel, chocolates or bubble bath as a little treat, but if he really wanted me to have £50 on myself, I'd have probably wanted it to go on a comfy pair of boots, couple of new bras (supportive not sexy!) or have my highlights done. When money is tight it can be disappointing to be given a surprise, even a very thoughtful one, when what you really could do with would be, say, a new casual outfit that you'd not grabbed off a rail in Asda. Why not give her the cash on condition that she should spend it on herself however she wants?0

When I had my son, the first Christmas I'd have loved a bottle of my favourite perfume as I'd run out and didn't feel I could justify spending any of our tight budget on a luxury that was just for me whilst I was on maternity and our income had dropped. Smelling gorgeous even if I was still carrying baby weight and never dressed up gave me a real boost I found.
I like the idea of cash with the proviso itsto buy something only for her.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

She already knows I will have the baby whenever she needs. However I dont think my boss would take too kindly to me walking out of work! So it only works when im not working0
