Christmas present for new mum something useful!

I'm a mum to be and I will be distinctly unimpressed if OH ever tries to give me something like an 'afternoon off' or 'babysitting voucher'. Our child will have 2 parents, so I expect us both to do our fair share, not just as a birthday/Christmas/other occasion treat. I wonder how often it is suggested that a new dad is given a day off voucher?
Things like a massage, hair, nails, spa are subtley different and I'm sure would be appreciated. I love the idea of a posh perfume as a lovely treat and way to feel spoilt. What about a pamper box? For £50 you could get some bubbly, some nice smellies, a couple of bits of make up, cosy slippers, some books etc.0 -
Someone to do the ironing!!
The ironing pile was my nemesis when the little ones were small......0 -
If you aren't doing presents as such, how about something for both of you? So she doesn't feel bad about not doing the same for you. Cinema and a meal out or something similar. Often with a young one you don't get time to spend with just the two of you.
I agree about time off with you "babysitting" not being good as you are a team, I hate it when people refer to Dads "babysitting".0 -

Agree with this. I have 4 sisters and several friends with children, and they would not be impressed if their husband gave them vouchers for an afternoon off as a gift. As the posters on here have said, it's the responsibility of the father of the baby to take part in the baby raising, as well as the mother.Someone to do the ironing!!

Well yeah, that would be nice, but again, someone doing the ironing for a gift, wouldn't be the ideal gift for most mothers of young children. If you aren't doing presents as such, how about something for both of you? Yeah I think a trip together, like a day out, or an afternoon out is a nice idea, but the idea that many have come up with of a spa day is fab imo.:)
Also agree that I hate to hear people say the father of the child is babysitting; you don't 'babysit' your OWN children.cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -

I only do ironing when I've got a job interview - so not in the last 6 years.Person_one wrote: »I moved house a year ago. Finally unpacked the last box today, it had the iron in it.
The notion of an exhausted new parent spending hours ironing baby-gros is just utterly ridiculous. Every spare moment should be spent catching up on precious sleep.
I think I know where the iron is - buried in the conservatory somewhere - but for the life of me I can't think where the ironing board is...0
