I have moved and rang my car insurance company to tell them.
It took their representative about 20 seconds to make the alteration and she then advised me that the charge is £26.
Approx. 80p per key depression on the keyboard.

Admin charges are very expensive sometimes its possible to change details online at no cost.0 -
£26 for an admin change is quite reasonable, there are some that will do it free but most won't. Was there also a premium change (up or down)?0

Obviously you know that in reality the cost covers the staff wages, telephone lines, computers and software, training plus all costs associated with the premises.0 -

But these certainly will have been built into the premiums that we all pay in the first place.
My bank, electricity supplier, water company etc. etc. all have the very same overheads but they did not charge for my change of address.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Yes but was it an admin charge or change of postcode?
Our daughter has just changed her address and it cost £40 because the premium is higher for where she now lives.0 -
Yes I understand that overheads have to be taken into account.

Insurance is such a competitive industry that they have to keep premiums down as low as possible to attract customers, especially now comparison sites are so easily accessible. This means that anyone who contacts them for changes to their policy will bear the full cost of this extra contact in the form of admin charges.
Other industries are not as competitive so can build the full overhead cost into their product prices, especially water companies where their is nill competition in each area.0 -

Given that the staff are sat there regardless of my call and the company has fixed costs for telephones , premises etc. how can they incur any additional costs for a short telephone call.
I am fairly sure that the staff don't get paid extra for piecework.
Would there have been a shortfall in their accounts if I had not decided to move ?Forgotten but not gone.0 -

If nobody ever moved or needed to amend their policy, I'm sure there would be.0
