Car insurance companies are a law unto themselves.
A few years ago my partner and I moved from a slightly dodgy urban area to a quiet rural location. Her premium (Swiftcover) reduced so she got a partial refund and there was no admin fee. My premium (Admiral) increased and there was an admin fee.
I renewed my current car insurance a couple of weeks ago and thought I'd let my insurers know my soft-top was now stored in a locked garage rather than on the driveway. My premium went up :huh:0 -

Renewing your car insurance with the same company? Are you mad? As Martin says never renewal.
I change my insurance provider each year. A couple of years I have used the same company twice, with 2-3 year gap betweenThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I rarely renew but this year, both for me and my other half with different insurance companies, the renewals have been literally pennies more expensive than anything I could get going through several compare sites so it wasn't worth switching. I actually ended up with a better deal because when I expressed my surprise at a premium increasing for a car being stored in a locked garage, the insurance company suggested I could declare a lower annual mileage, which shaved 15 quid off the cost.0
