Change of Address

While most insurers are quite transparent about these charges they are excessive for the level of work involved. Similarly with changing details on a flight or holiday booking Even given overheads I would have thought £5-10 would be more realistic so there is definitely significant profiteering going on.
Maybe in another few years it will be the next PPI scandal so keep all that paperwork and think about the 8% interest you will be able to add when claiming the money back.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
Given that the staff are sat there regardless of my call and the company has fixed costs for telephones , premises etc. how can they incur any additional costs for a short telephone call.
I am fairly sure that the staff don't get paid extra for piecework.
Would there have been a shortfall in their accounts if I had not decided to move ?POPPYOSCAR wrote: »Yes but was it an admin charge or change of postcode?
Our daughter has just changed her address and it cost £40 because the premium is higher for where she now lives.0 -

If everyone just took out their policy online and saw it through to the end their would not be any need for three call centre, staff, telephones and everything could be done in a small office with less staff. So like I said to keep prices down only the customers who need to contact the call centre for changes pair their share of the admin costs.0 -
I have always wondered why the cost is based on your house postcode. I would wager that the vast majority of incidents occur in a totally different postcode area to your house postcode.0

Well, the SpammyTheSpammer person (not sure why) mentioned Toxteth... That is a prime example of somewhere where:
1. You'd find a lot of kids riding around dangerously on motorbikes/cycles
2. A higher rate of drug/alcohol abuse which may translate into more reckless driving from other parties.
3. A higher probability that your car will be bricked or nicked outside your home.
So a higher premium would make sense(when compared to some areas which are less rough!)

Yes I took out my policy online.
Given that I have online access to my account why couldn't I myself change the address ?
If a payment was required because of increased risks associated with my new postcode, the software could demand a payment.
Referring to other posts above ,the £26 was for just the change of address - I had no complaint about paying an extra £2.74 for the change of postcode (although I only moved 800 yards).Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Yes I understand that overheads have to be taken into account.
But these certainly will have been built into the premiums that we all pay in the first place.
Or their pricing model may instead build in revenue from people making changes so that their insurance charges are cheaper in the first place.
Not much difference to airlines charging to reserve your chosen seats rather than you being allocated them on check in.0 -
You think that you are "just changing your address"
The Insurers see that you are (probably) moving from a relatively crime free country location to a place where cars are regularly stolen/smashed up
SorryI am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

There's nowhere decent within 0.5 miles of Toxteth(My locked student compound many moons ago is 1.1 miles away)
