  • Hi all

Finally finding time to myself to read up and update. Had visitors all weekend. Was lovely but now I can enjoy some peace and quiet :D

Have managed to pot £10 so far although I need to get out of the habit of keeping track of the amount. I like the surprise at the end.

I find myself wanting to hang on to as many coins as possible now. I don't like the sound of a hollow, empty tin so need to get potting and hopefully make it as heavy as SP9 :T

    Happy potting all

Did grocery shopping this afternoon, about to pot the coins left over in my pot: £2.74,as well as house-kill of 9p (will probably find more of that if I get off this very comfortable sofa to tidy up.
I have a circle of 5-6 friends that we take turns hosting a meal(have a meal about every month).Well,we have been back in our house since May,and these friends have not seen the extension since it was completed .This week is my turn to host ,and I am a bit nervous icon_eek.gifdunno[1].gif.Really must move off this sofa and do some tidying/planning a meal......

    But I wanted to ask.....

One of the things I want to use my pot money for ,is cycling through different accounts to get extra interest/rewards/etc.There are lots of threads about it in the budgeting and bank accounts forum "upstairs" from here.Well,I am not lying,I spent over 7 hours yesterday trawling through threads to see how people have done it.Everyone,of course, has different amounts to invest, and all afternoon I didn't find a step-by-step guide to set it up to suit my situation (only a couple of thousand to cycle through. Not,as per :money:'s guide, where you need £30,000  and joint accounts).

I could ask "upstairs",but I know (from 7 hours + of reading),I will be told to go and do more homework until I find the answers :o.

So,does anybody do this?I wondered if there was a way of cycling money through, say,Halifax Reward,TSB,and maybe back to my present current account(Natwest).People mention using ,say,Tesco for sacrificial accouts-I don't really know what that means? And can you really pay a direct debit to yourself?Or to Paypal?Thought I might open up a few accounts, collect the rewards for doing so,then cycle money. But I am getting a headache (and have about 790,324,502 tabs open on my laptop, trying to compare not-very-like with even-less-alike .)Would love any advice if anyone can help, thank you xx

  • Thank you for the star Su, very kind of you.
£30 went in the pot this weekend did quite well as it was only a small shop this week so the excess went in the pot.

    Hope everyone is well.

I have my normal current ccount then 3 tsb accounts and a virgin account, mine are no dd''s as only have phone and they need things like electric etc.
The tsb has to have £500 i think paid in but it does not have to stay there to get interest;)
It is maxed out with how much you can have which is 3,000 so from current account 500 dd set up, hits my account, 2 days later leaves, hits dh's account , 2 days later leaves and goes back where it started:rotfl: should think its dizzy, same with other accounts just bounces around

£4.57 potted today, change from food shopping. That's a 100th of what I'm aiming for total wise, so it could be possible.

That is brilliant, thank you.So I can set up a direct debit paid to Saver-upper,as opposed to a real "company"/"utility" (I usually think of DD's as being paid to organisations, but doing it this way,the same £500 is transferred to account to account, and counts as a DD?)This is why people talk about using, say Tesco bank,to pay a DD to?So really you are paying it to yourself?(Tesco doesn't have a DD requirement,I don't think).

Sorry, not really trying to hog the board with off-topic stuff ,but it is my SPC money,so that counts as on-topic,yes?

Many thanks for the gold star :j Haven't had one of those since school which must be a good 10 years....................or so!!! Added it to my signature.

Would you mind putting my 2017 target as £500 please? No idea how much I've saved so far so no idea how close I will be a year from now. Put a couple more quid in this weekend and my daughter came back from trampolining and said she had some change for the pig. No idea how much it was but glad she's now into it too.

Anyone using TSB don't forget the TSB 5% cashback for contactless spending, up to £5 per month. They're stopping it soon so get it while you can. It's only a small amount but mine goes towards next season's football tickets. I'm sure we all have all sorts of things we need to save for. Halifax cashback offers are also good.
