I moved address about 15 years ago and my doctor told me to leave, I was a bit put out at first because I'd used the same practice for 30 odd years since childhood but after a while I realised I'm better off not with my 'new' doctor only up the road from me rather than having to travel 5 miles.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

I have been with my GP practice for 30 yrs. I moved about 20 yr ago from their practice area with my family. And this year i live on my own and now i live closer to the practice than my family are. And now they want me to find another surgery!
When i asked if i could change address they said no i will have to find another surgery, however i didn't give them my new address.
Somehow they have sent me a letter to my new address, im guessing DWP has given it to them.
Due to my anxiety i really dont fancy going to a new GP as i have so much confidence with my current one.
I also have a question, does anyone know if i do register to a new GP. How long after i put in the registration can i see someone? can i see someone straight away?
Thanks0 -
It is normal for GP practise to serve the local area. For very good reason, if you move out of the area you will normally be asked to change GP. Have you discussed your concerns with the practise manager?

I'm one of those people that goes to the doctor once every 5 years, and when I moved the doctor told me I could stay with them. 4 years later when I did need medial treatment for a knee problem they suddenly decided I was outside the area.
It may well depend on whether you are cash cow or not, but ultimately there is nothing you can do0
