Switching to IOS

Only problem I have with Apple is they finish their products updates too soon. I have a 4 year old iPad that is not suitable for their latest IOS 10 update, at least Microsoft continues updates to their O/S for many years longer.
Yeah, that's the problem. The iphone SE is 6 months old. Apple may only support it for another year and a half or something - after which, it becomes an expensive paper weight.
On the other hand, I don't want to get a cheap android phone that may not get security updates!
This decision was alot easier when the Google Nexus 5 was first launched and it was like £300. £600 for a Pixel is more of a dent in the wallet.0 -
Fragmentation is only really an issue if you buy old or cheap - current flagships can all run everything just fine. Vendor OS updates is a problem, but not unique to Android, and i know Google are looking at the issue seriously. Apple make perfectly decent mid-market devices, but charge premium prices for them, and well done to them for it. The latest top spec iPhone is just shy of a grand, which is ridiculous money no matter how you look at it. Especially as you'll need various adapters to interface. The adverts works, the hyperbole works, the market isn't rational.
Can you borrow an iPhone for a week, or get one from cex and sell it back to them? I'd personally never be able to live with iOS and it's limitations, I'm too used to Android. I know I can get this phone to do loads of things that are impossible on iOS, and my needs are sometimes more demanding than "just a phone", but you may find you like it and spank the cash.0 -
the iphone SE is only £429 and it's got 64gb of storage.
Moto 4G plus with 4gb ram and 64gb of storage is £264, plus you can expand that by adding a microSD card of up to 256gb.

A wee bit cheaper from giffgaff: £399... the iphone SE is only £429 and it's got 64gb of storage.

Presumably since it has the same processor as the iphone 6 it should be supported for some time to come. Still feels like quite a lot of £ for a 4" screen though.0 -

In all fairness to Apple the iPad 2 received five years' worth of software updates.
I'm not calling Google here but even their latest Pixel phone is slated to receive two years' worth of software updates and three years' worth of security updates.
I'd imagine iPhone SE will get up to and including iOS 12 at least; it has the same chip as the iPhone 6s/6s Plus with the same amount of RAM (2GB) too. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
The only Android phone I would consider getting is the Google Pixel, because it will get security updates quickly ...
I'm not sure that's true, I have a Nexus 5X and it gets the regular monthly update from Google - next one is due shortly. I haven't heard that there are any plans to end that, although eventually it won't be included in OS updates so I'd guess the security updates may end at that time too.0 -
So I don't get why Apple products are so popular when the apps work so poorly.
Apps work fine. In most cases, exactly the same as Android. For some reason the app store tends to have very few reviews and usually lower ratings.
Very little difference between iOS and Android these days. iOS still slightly more intergrated. Android has more choice and cheaper apps.0 -
I'm sitting here typing this on a Macbook Pro.
I have a 27" iMac in the study and an iPod Classic 160GB for music.
My mobile is a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge..............
I have had an iPhone but didn't really get on with it, on the other hand I love my Android based Samsung.
Yes an iPhone would integrate a lot better than the Samsung, they only have to be near a Mac and you get texts and calls on the computer, but even that doesn't make me like IOS enough to buy an iPhone. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Did you know Android only offer 2 software updates per device?0
