Switching to IOS

I've been an Android user up until now but I'm thinking about switching to IOS.

One of the reasons you hear lots of people give for why they think IOS is better than Android is because Apple make the hardware and the software and there's not the fragmentation that exists in Android.

I had a look on the Itunes appstore and quite a few of the apps that I would use have 2 stars, eg Iplayer Radio and National Rail Enquiries. As Apple make the software and hardware i would've thought they could make apps that work well and get good reviews. I've had an Android phone for the past 3 years and can't think of a single app that I've had a problem with.

I'm not saying this as some kind of Android fanboy - I'm genuinely thinking of switch to IOS but the poor reviews of many of the apps I'd be using has made me think twice.

As above Apple just charge the developers to put the apps on the market .

Its true that their is not the fragmentation as with Android . But Android has choice across a broad price spectrum .

So I don't get why Apple products are so popular when the apps work so poorly.

I don't have an issue with any Apple products and apps I use. What makes you think they all work so poorly? You only name 2 in your OP.

Apple dont make the apps, as stated above, but they do make the developers jump through hoops in the way that their apps look and feel.
the developers dont just have free raign to create anything in the way that they choose.

For this reason, you get the "apple feel" right accross the whole app base.

I used to be a total Fandroid, as i am a developer myself , but after having an iphone forced on me for work, i must admit that they do work rather nicely and a bit more smoothly and seamlessly than android.

So yes, great product - but would i spend my own money on one ? - not sure

I'm an Android user, our company recently issued us with iphones.

I was expecting to be so impressed that I wouldn't any more be able to live with my second rate Samsung. Instead, I was astonished by how far behind Apple are. ios is seriously clunky.

Stuff that takes a couple of taps on Android takes 4 or 5 on ios. I gave up trying to persuade the iphone to open webpages in a better browser than Safari.

And in many cases it's not obvious how to achieve an end result - though of course that's often because it's simply not possible on an iphone.

If you're used to having your Android phone set up just the way you like it, you'd better hope that it's an exact match to how Apple's execs like their phones. Because you do things Apple's way or not at all.

The build quality on iphones is great. Just as good as the build quality on top brand Android phones. Only much much more expensive.

Stick with droid, you'll get a much better phone for less money. Or one that's as good for far far far less money.

The only Android phone I would consider getting is the Google Pixel, because it will get security updates quickly but it starts at £599. Hence the reason why I started to consider IOS for the first time - the iphone SE is only £429 and it's got 64gb of storage.

Only problem I have with Apple is they finish their products updates too soon. I have a 4 year old iPad that is not suitable for their latest IOS 10 update, at least Microsoft continues updates to their O/S for many years longer.

I agree its overpriced. I went for the Google Nexus 6p 64GB around £400 on Amazon. Its now on latest Android 7 and gets updates the same as Pixel
