Sorry I've been MIA - Just logged back in

2 kiddies so I plan my holidays around them - Beaches, sightseeing (Animal parks, aquariums etc)

Somewhere that has a decent enough play park because they spend hours on them (Even though they have slides etc at home, never understood that!)

Somewhere with kids entertainment at night (not bothered about a kids club in day)

In land or coastal doesn't really matter - I have a car so we can drive

Walking - Not an avid fan but we like going for strolls (if that's the right term?!) and exploring

Whats wrong with Great Yarmouth? I've never been so not sure what its like :o

EDIT: I want to take the kids to the Sandringham Estate... little one is obsessed with the queen at the moment!

If Sandringham Estate is on your list of places to visit Heacham and Hunstanton are just a short drive away and both have beaches. and a Sea Life centre.

Great Yarmouth - haven't been there for years but the last time we went we spend just a few minutes on the beach and left quickly as we had to watch where we put our feet (the dogs must have a lovely run).

I somewhat agree with this, but I have memories of sitting on the beach in Yarmouth with the kids to hear every other person on the beach effing and blinding.
It's in dire need of rejuvenation and has a visible drug problem . You can't pretend otherwise.
    Norfolk has some beautiful places.

I tend to visit slightly off season so don't see so much of the locals, but you are right peak season on a hot day the locals will of course visit the beach and mingle in with the tourists, of course the language you heard could have come from tourists but more than likely it was from those living in the town.

How old are your children? and how may days were you planning on staying?

Sandringham has lots of woodland walks and a small kids play area. I have never been inside the house its on my to do list.

Hunstanton is very close to Sandringham. Its ok but only takes a day at most and you have seen everything, the beach is a bit stoney. very nice to sit of an evening and watch the sunset over the sea.
There is a sea life but they charge way too much to get in for what its worth. The sea life at Yarmouth is slightly better/bigger but still expensive.

How far are you prepared to travel from your base each day? Or do you want to be close to Sandringham if thats a must do?

Pensthorpe natural park is close to Hunstanton, its a lovely day out lots of birds/ducks to see in their natural environment and there is a great play area for the kids. you need good weather as its all outdoors (there is an indoor play but you only get 1 hour allocated slot to go in there).

Heacham lavender park is close - not my thing but there is a small animal area to visit but you have to pay extra, also there is farmer freds an indoor play area next to there.

Wells-next- to- sea is a bit further along the coast depending on age of children they might like to go crabbing on the quay side (warning its scary seeing all the kids hang over the edge! but my son loves it, I wouldn't let a young child take part). Beach is nice lots of beach huts, there is a boating lake (canoeing).

Best beach north Norfolk is Brancaster just along from Hunstanton really lovely beach but its only a beach nothing else there, which can be a good thing as nothing for the kids to craze you to spend money on!

I have to work in Yarmouth one day a week most weeks, and most years spend a day there in the summer, can't beat the crazy golf there.

Yes it needs rejuvenation and yes there is a lot of unemployment but I haven't seen a visible drugs problem. What part of Yarmouth have you seen it?

Kids will love the pleasure beach and sea world.

Yarmouth is of course a typical English beach resort full of arcades much like Blackpool.

Having said that I would t want to stay there for a week

How about a lodge at fritton lake.

Exactly and I would advise anyone to avoid Blackpool as well. There are some lovely places in Norfolk, Gt Yarmouth I would associate with teenagers out for the day rather than for a childrens holiday.

Gressenhall farm and workhouse museum is good and the dinosaur adventure park both near Dereham. A local primaray school had visits there and the children loved it.

It's not a nice picture. It's sad.I've worked in the town too. There's a very visible drug problem in the town.

    5 and 9

I don't mind travelling - When we stayed in Devon & Cornwall we were travelling all over the place to see the sights

Crabbing - we tried this, didn't do so well :rotfl: we caught 1 when we went to Looe, and I dropped it when I was pulling the line up - They weren't impressed with me!

Without a doubt I'm going to have to check out the specific location of Hunstanton! ;)

Edited to add: Good grief, you can!

Also having lived several miles from and spent many days working in Great Yarmouth I used to think the best thing about it was the road out.

I do tend to agree although as I said at the beginning it does depend on what someone wants from a holiday.

I personally have not witnessed any drug problem

yes i could post links in the news but has anyone on here witnessed it and if so where?

regardless, the OP has had had some suggestions now and I am sure will love Norfolk wherever she stays
