Brexit will be a Titanic Success - Boris Johnson

Quite agree! His use was perfectly correct for his context. Dictionary definition of titanic gives "of exceptional strength, size or power" etc. Which is why the name was chosen for the ship. (not often I agree with old Boris, but for once...)
Yes, Boris's problem is that being a well educated posh boy he thinks you can just go ahead and use words that have been in the dictionary for many decades and were inspired by Greek mythology, and people will understand them because they are also educated and aware of common words found across decades of literature and any dictionary or thesaurus. In a literary essay sense, yes, for a polititian though, a stupendous foot in mouth moment that could be seen a mile off by anyone with any nous. :rotfl:
Instead he should have realised that the Sun-reading populace would figure it was a reference to that Winslet / Di Caprio movie where the people got wet and Celine Dion's heart will go on dand on. It is a stupendous foot in mouth moment to not notice the potential misinterpretation.
Almost as bad as that time he wanted to have a policy to transform something and everyone was worried that he was referencing Optimus Prime's battle with the Decepticons in that documentary by Michael Bay.0 -
In his defence (for once) I imagine he said 'titanic success' and our beloved media decided that they had heard 'Titanic'.
It's a mistake they share with Boris Johnson himself.
The former chancellor has just…does he not know that the Titanic exhibition in Northern Ireland is the single most popular tourist attraction in the province – of course it is.
This was what he said in response to Osborne, rather than perhaps instead playing his embarrassed cringe look and saying whoops I didn't mean to use that word.0 -
Reminds me of this one...bowlhead99 wrote: »Yeah that would work well:

Bunch of Brexiteers get into a taxi
"Where to Guv?"
"We want to leave"
"Yes, but where are you going?"
"I said we're leaving"
"Can you give me directions?"
"We have a MANDATE!"
"North or south?"

So thatscwhy it was sorted so fast , and the 3 amigos remain judges hurried it along :mad:Do people know about the Crowdfunding for the Supreme Court hearing? £46K pledged already in under 5 hours. Lots more will be needed as such court cases are incredibly expensive.

The remainers fault that it's difficult to negotiate a good deal at the same time as laying your cards in the table to say to your public and government exactly what bad terms you'd probably begrudgingly have to accept, while not knowing how far you can push the 27 members of your opponents because they don't need to do same?
I think we should probably coin a new term , "blameainers'?
Meaning someone whose opinion was that they preferred on balance to remain in the EU for any of a number of reasons, was disappointed that they lost the public opinion poll by a slender margin, and is now being inexplicably blamed for all the things that are difficult about leaving the EU with a good deal, on the grounds that they said it would be difficult so it must be their fault that it is.0 -
You're as bad as the Daily Mail with those sorts of comments. Which bit of parliamentary democracy don't you understand? So thatscwhy it was sorted so fast , and the 3 amigos remain judges hurried it alongRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

The one where mps voted and passed, that we could have a referendum and our decision was final..
nothing to do with all the ex/remaining MPs , Clegg .milliband and co.
It should be up to the brexit MPs, thats who won..
Seems a bit silly asking the remainers if they will let us T50..
