and how have your electricity bills been? What kind of heating did you have before? What kind of tariff are you on - Economy 7?
I have storage heaters but on sunny spring days the house can get very hot and all the stored energy is wasted.
Thanks0 -

I assume as the days get warmer, you are turning the input down by an appropriate level and keeping the output at the lowest level.
If you have multiple storage heaters you can always turn one or two off at the socket in areas of the house that get the most sun.
Storage heaters, used correctly, are the cheapest way to heat an all electric property.
What is your annual kwh use and night use percentage.
You can work out what it would cost you to have the alternative based on that alone.0 -
Ok I am sure this is a stupid question but does the lowering the input controller setting reduce the wattage drawn from the mains or does it reduce how frequently the heater draws power?0
-
Yes .... lowering the input controller setting will correspondingly reduce the total kWh drawn from the mains, example lower the input by 50% will reduce the wattage from the mains by ±50%. The heater is a storage vessel, keeping the output to zero and the input to enough is the most economic use [30%+ cheaper] of the tariff you are on.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. We've just had 5 of these installed in our maisonette to replace old outdated Economy7 storage heaters and in our 1st month my electricity bill has doubled.
They work off daytime electricity not overnight Economy7 so much more expensive.
Only 3 of them are on for 2 hours in the morning and for 7 hour in the afternoon/evening. 2 at 23 degrees as they dont come on at 21 degrees which is the factory settings. The other one at 21 degrees is on permanently.
1 on upstairs for 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. The 5th one isn't used.
So beware. Very expensive to run and not totally adequate.
Economy7 overnight storage heaters much cheaper to run and gives out much more heat.0 -
Your advice on actua hands onl use use as a householder is invaluable and will I'm sure be seen by others who might avoid the experiences you have had.
You don't state the costs but I'm sure the (1) total installation costs and increased electricity costs will reflect are similar.
Volume kW hours will be similar to NSH, the scary difference is you are paying 30-50% more than your E7 tariff.
Again, thanks for feedback to MSE users.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
