Without understanding the requirements of the Newbie, it's impossible to say whether this was good advice or not. What matters is not the number of accounts, but the requirements of the account holder.

I think yesterday, his big fear was as he got older and faced the possibility of having to go and live in a care home, who would look after his complicated affairs. If he has to get a professional, the fees are likely to be high.

Out of approx 12 current accounts I've applied for since June:

M&S didn't give me an instant decision, took a few days to confirm.

I applied to HSBC on 31/10/16 and have heard nothing since (should give them a call).

Nationwide, who I already had a current account, credit card and savings accounts with for 10 years+ were the only provider who required me to take ID to branch, though the advisor there thought it was likely a mistake as they had already confirmed ID previously.

Tesco, Lloyds, BOS, FD, Santander, TSB were all instant online decisions.

    Thanks for that..

So it's probably just a hiccup and once they seen the notes from the adviser etc it will be full account that gets opened?

Update went back to the bank yesterday after work (To find out what's happening) spoke to same the adviser as I did on saturday...

He told me my current account will be opened today or tomorrow as can take up to 48 hours from completing the application for account to be opened/show up on my online banking.

If nothing has happened by tomorrow he will ring me to discuss my options..

My account was referred and application being check but could only open a basic account now if I wanted one.. (Only want full account)

So hopefully will get a full current account looks like it will be tomz..

I have never been in Debt or missed any payments since 2003 when I opened my first account aged 13
