I think it must depend on families.
My dad would always wear his funeral suit to funerals, it was dark colored, not black and heavy material, a good quality suit.
When he died I just wore a green dress. He had obviously died so couldn't give two hoots what I wore and I couldn't have cared less what people wore to his funeral as long as they turned up if they wanted to and we're greeted all alike and made welcome.
If people thought green was not right, if just lost my dear dear dad and other people's opinions went out the window.
Like I say though, other families could be entirely different.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
