Glad to hear the ceremony went well, @EH. Yes, it's a tough time emotionally & it's a good decision to have a gentler day today.

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!2 -
Well done for taking some time out today. My Dad died after 12 months - I watched him getting frailer and frailer and whilst it was a blessing in disguise when he died, I was absolutely devastated - far more than I thought I would be. You may find in the coming weeks that it suddenly "hits" you on and off, but it will definitely get easier I promise... Sending hugs.Debt free and Keeping on Track3

Glad all went well EH, take time for yourself . Grief is dealt by everyone differently and there is no right and wrong . When my brother passed away at 28 everyone said how well I coped the death was in very stressful circumstances. However it hit me 6months later , little things still trigger me and we are sadly still dealing with the after effects 29 yrs later .Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.4

Glad the ceremony went well, sounds like a great send off. Funerals are so bittersweet, remembering a life well lived while being so desperately sad.
I think every funeral I've been to, I've learnt something new about the person as everyone shares their memories that predate your knowledge. People live such fascinating lives often.
Music is so evocative... I remember researching my dad's preferences. My mum was always the more dominant partner and dad ended up going with the flow. At his wake, I made a playlist of all his favourite songs and did a montage of photos of him on a screen. Even then I could see my mum twitching as it wasn't to her taste... she couldn't say anything really as the wake was at my house and everyone was saying lovely things about the music/photos.
He liked Warren Zevon and I found a lovely song by him called 'Keep me in your heart' which I managed to wangle into the funeral. Worth a listen, not particularly my music taste, but poignant lyrics.
I'm glad you're going with the flow and listening to your inner voice as to when is the time to do what. It's a tough time xxDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)
