Thanks all - HNY etc, the trip was indeed splendid, although the weather was rather “mixed” we’re used to that - and expect it - so no issues there. Only one day with winds so strong I struggled to stay upright, that was New Year’s Day and even then we still got out for a couple of walks albeit the first was cut short because of the aforementioned “couldn’t stay upright” issue! We’ve come back armed with lots of tasty food - we usually do bring back some stuff - so will have black and white puddings to portion and freeze, a couple of haggis one of which will be eaten for the 25th, tattie scones (3 packs of the BEST ones) some oatcakes (ok quite a lot of oatcakes) and less cheese than we’d like because nobody restocked after Christmas soon enough. Boo. Oh and three packs of wonderful smoked salmon offcuts - the really well smoked roasty bits - yum. Two of those have already been frozen. I need to meal plan - although ai already know that some of the pack of salmon that is in the fridge will be going into pasta later in the week. Double yum. Did enough shopping on the way back yesterday (we wanted some Scottish beers to bring back too so stopped at a giant T’s) that I have no need to rush out to Aldi today - as it’s grey and dreary here that is a good thing. One negative - the car threw up an emissions warning light/message on the way home. Well - I say “light” - three of them in fact, which was alarming, handily we were just approaching a turn off with a services so we pulled off to check things out - everything was amber warnings, so no need to “Stop, do not pass go…” etc, so we continued home after a bit of Googling to try to find out what was going on, and only lost 20 minutes or so. There is a chance of a very innocent explanation - in which case some of the lights and the message will have gone when we start her up later, but I’m not holding out much hope of that - so chances are we will be needing to look into the terms of the warranty (this was MrEH’s car and it came with - from memory - a reasonable one year warranty included, he needs to check details though.) Otherwise it will be EF to the rescue. As well as the cottage up there we had two fantastic overnight stays both of which were bargainous - on the way up the wonderful “Skye Inn” which we booked using a hotelsdotcom reward night so it only cost us £16 - and had a great breakfast included. Staff were lovely, room was cosy - perfect. The way back was The Garrison at Fort William - which turned out to be a boutique hotel style place - room was smallish but very comfortable, free tunnocks tea cakes and other snacks, beautifully styled decor etc - a few pennies under £50 for the night. We deliberately booked that one without brekkie as there was a ‘Spoons just down the road which suits us fine. Happy to Ameche both places on here as they were great and I’d recommend either to people wanting accommodation in the locations. So that’s the summary done - I’ll try and post some more photos, then I guess it’s time for a bit of good old new year planning on the financial front…!Abandoned Cottage at Loch Skipport, South Uist, and the view over Loch Eynort (South Uist) to the seaNight time view from the cottage…think that’s Jupiter to the right of the moon
The rock arch at Tigharry (North Uist) - this is just at the tip of the headland where we stay when we’re over in spring/autumn - and is one of my favourite places. I have photos of me standing on the top!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
