Just remember, that with naproxen you need to line your stomach. And don't, whatever you do, accidentally take them with ibuprofen...
I have a hormonal coil. It pretty much saved my life. I get a new one every 3 years along with a biopsy to make sure it's still working. It has revolutionised my life, so don't dismiss it out of hand.5 -
I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand for anyone else, but personally I've never found any hormonal contraceptive that I was happy with, and I've been very happy with a copper IUDs for the last 15 years. Didn't have an issue with heavy periods - my only issue was with pain, so heavy duty painkillers solves that without me needing to bother with swapping the coil.
Good that there a few options we can choose from, even if they're not all perfect!4 -
Many moons ago, my first doctor in the UK refused to prescribe the lovely painkillers I'd been taking across the pond, stating that they were not available on the NHS - I ended up seeing another doctor in the clinic for urgent care, who happily gave me the generic equivalent & also said my own doctor was full of "it" - from him I learned that there were always options available & after a stern lecture, learned to be persistent when it's a health matter!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Absolutely LOVE that my diary has turned into a safe space for chat about this stuff - we’re so bad about being open about it…well no, actually we’re not are we, we’ve just spent most of our lives with people, mostly men but sadly too many women as well, making faces and saying “euuww!” if periods are even mentioned. It’s hardly surprising if we’re hesitant to bring it up.Cheery my Dad had those exact same painkillers and his were for gout, so I knew immediately what you were on! Greenbee my mefenamic acid is also an NSAID so no ibuprofen for me at certain times of the month too. Freaky fact too - the TXA that I’m also on is why I had a several month delay to get my covid jab 1 as well - I had to join a queue for Pfizer as the TXA “can” cause issues with clots so it was agreed that I wasn’t a good candidate for AZ. MrEH was most gleeful at being able to jump ahead of me there even though he’s younger!I also completely get Cheery’s hesitance over types of contraception too - and the thing about surgeries/GPs acting like they’re giving away their own salary with the cost of medication. I’m hideously forgetful so the thought of the pill scared me rigid as I knew I’d forget to take it, and with a long history until recently of injection-phobia neither the implant nor the injection were an option for me, so I ended up on the patch, which I loved. Then I encountered a GP who clearly resented that it was a LOT more expensive than the other options, and basically harangued me with phrases like “there’s no good reason why you can’t just take a pill like everyone else” in spite of the fact that I’d explained exactly why! I ended up complaining to the practise manager about her - her whole attitude stank. Complaint was upheld too and I got an apology - and an assurance that more understanding attitudes were expected of the GPs there. I have to be really angry to go to the lengths of making a formal complaint like that but I’m so glad I did over that. It really is SUCH an individual thing and we absolutely all have the right to say “nope, that doesn’t suit me” for whatever our own personal reasons are, IMO. RT you’re right about persistence too - that was another lesson I learned with my anaemia in 2017.
I’m back home by the way - Boss got fed up with me coughing I think! I don’t think either of us are expecting me in tomorrow either - I’d certainly have to feel a whole lot better tomorrow morning to make me think it was a good idea, and aside from anything else, I have no idea whether I’d still be spreading cold germs everywhere at the moment, whereas by Monday I can be pretty sure I won’t be. So I’m curled up on the sofa watching the wind whip the last of the leaves off the trees outside - the big old oak over the road is still just hanging on to most of her hers and they’re glowing a gorgeous yellow in the fading daylight too - very autumnal!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
