Snotty letters asking for evidence to support UC claim when not asked for in applying

I have signed up to receive Universal Credit, and today I have a very snotty letter from Wolverhampton asking to provide evidence to support my UC claim but this was never asked for when I filled out the forms. (I haven't received anything to request this information despite what the letter says and I don't recall receiving anything to tell me so despite what the DWP might say). I have already taken in documents to the job centre for my first interview to prove whom I am (which I did) for this purpose, and now I am being demanded to provide MORE and this has sent me FUMING MAD AND UPSET. What do I do?:mad::mad:

Do they always do this to people to pressure them unfairly?????? Has anybody else suffered this? It's very unprofessional of the DWP to treat new claimants this way.

Before you get 'FUMING MAD AND UPSET' what are they asking for?

Maybe something hasn't added up when processing your claim, or they need additional information in order to process your claim.

You haven't given enough information to allow us to judge whether you being FUMING is appropriate, or inappropriate when asking for taxpayers money.

I have signed up to receive Universal Credit, and today I have a very snotty letter - exact wording, I suspect it's not snotty at all. from Wolverhampton asking to provide evidence to support my UC claim - excellent, you are asking for support from the taxpayer, I'm pleased that the DWP is gathering supporting evidence but this was never asked for when I filled out the forms. - no, typically supporting evidence is requested afterward (I haven't received anything to request this information despite what the letter says and I don't recall receiving anything to tell me so despite what the DWP might say - You haven't received, or you don't recall receiving? ). I have already taken in documents to the job centre for my first interview to prove whom - who* I am (which I did) for this purpose - no that's for a different purpose. , and now I am being demanded to provide MORE and this has sent me FUMING MAD AND UPSET. - why? Is it because you don't have any evidence? are you falsely claiming? What do I do?:mad::mad: - provide the evidence I'd say

Do they always do this to people to pressure them unfairly?????? - please can you elaborate why this is 'unfair' Has anybody else suffered this? It's very unprofessional of the DWP to treat new claimants this way.

In what way is it unprofessional?

So DWP should just give money to anyone who fills in a form, Is that what your suggesting. If you can't be bothered to provide evidence to the "snotty forms" then go find a job or don't claim. Simple really! Most letters DWP send to a claimant are generic type of letter depending on a claimants circumstances, You clearly think you're being victimised and singled out....

I don't think its unfair to ask people to provide information to make sure their claim is processed correctly. This is tax payers money you are receiving and they HAVE to make sure they are being processed accurately.

The wording of DWP letters can seem terse but they are generic letters and not customised for each claimant. I don't know what paperwork is sent out when a UC claim is made, but on all benefits I worked on there was a section along the lines of 'other information may be requested'. Without more detail, I suspect all that has happened is that this information has now been requested.
If you don't like what is being done you are always free to withdraw your claim. If you wish to proceed with the claim you need to provide all information requested. It's really as simple as that.

As DWP are going to provide your income and their requirement to ensure that you are entitled to what you have applied for, I don't see a problem with them asking for further information.

    You have two options;
1.Don't give them the requested information, but I imagine the claim won't be processed.
    2. Provide them with what they require, hopefully be awarded the claim.

Sadly, these letters are all too common.

All DWP UC post is sent to the post handling centre at Wolverhampton. Equally all computer generated UC letters come from that address.

Often when queried, the UC national contact centres say to simply ignore the letter from Wolvs, as it was 'computer generated' by the system and it should not have been sent. ie it's fairly standard for even once a claimant has supplied ID evidence to a JCP (who uploads this), they will then receive the letter you received, requesting the evidence.

It may be either that the copied ID info failed to upload, or - more likely - that the letter was generated in error.

Best calling the UC national contact centre to check.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

    Then you would be wrong.

The OP's complaint is all too common with new UC claims.

So much so that an MP raised this repeated failing of the DWP IT system with the Minister earlier this week.

Providing evidence numerous times would be an error, providing it once seems perfectly logical.

If you re-read the OP (as above) it clearly states that (s)he supplied proof of ID but not evidence to support the UC claim.

It would appear, they are now requesting the required information and it's that the OP seems to find...snotty. :)
